What up,
Just got back from the muffler shop, and had them hook me up with a cat-back system.. 2.25" piping, Flowmaster 50 Series muffler exiting in same place as stock system but with a real nice tip. It sounds pretty good but HOLY SH*T, with the chip and K&N it MOOOOOBZ.

leenjen, the 50 isnt super quiet... but it sounds good... it gives good performance and isnt horrifically loud like mine.... it is deep like flowies trademark sound just it doesnt get a lot louder than the stock one... but you can still hear that it is a flowmaster and not stock...

You could always get the Delta Flow which is even quieter than the regular 50 series.

Sound

At an idle, its pretty much like stock, though deeper. At about 3,000 RPMS it is definetly notable. It is definetely a difference, though it is not so loud as to be obnoxious. One question.... if i install a KKM True Rev kit, will it make the exhaust sound deeper or throatier. Right now i have a drilled airbox with a K&N drop in air filter. thanx

Do you guys run a catalictic(sp.??) converter on your exhaust? If not what kind of power gains do you get when removing it?

All Explorers come with 2 catalytic converters. On the OHV 4.0, they are in series. They are parallel on the 5.0 and 4.0 SOHC I believe. The stock cats are fairly hi-flowing. In fact, they flow the same CFM as my aftermarket headers and exhaust. What backpressure they do provide is necessary to maintain low end torque. Thus removing them may actually hurt performance. Not to mention that you'll pollute like crazy and in most cases it's illegal to run without cats.

On my supercharged 4.0 OHV, I run JBA headers, the stock cats, and a Magnaflow muffler with 2.25" exhaust.
