I know there are threads already here so pls excuse my question if it is already answered. So I have a 5.0 and I would like to loose two cats how do you do that without it setting off the check engine light? Also what if I dropped the muffler and resonator and ran straight pipes? Kind of like true duels Hollywood pipe style.

I don't recommend that you take the cats off.
For a start there isn't really any improvement over a properly working cat.

The toxins produced by uncatalysed unleaded gas are really, really bad; much worse than the leaded gas it superseded. You are the one person who will be exposed the toxins more than anyone else.

I want going to loose all four of them. I thought I had read where some guys were taking two of them off. I apologize if I offended anyone. I don't wantto break the law or breath the bad vapors either.

Not offending me, just wanted to give you a heads up if you don't get many responses.

I will say that the cats, unless damaged, aren't very restrictive. Unless there's a need, you won't see much gain or a better sound by removing them.

May I ask why you want to remove the cats? Do you have a code for them? I am assuming you want to remove the rear cats, that are side by side?

I've got the two rear cats removed and I have true dual straight pipes with 45 degree bend out each side and it sounds great

yea i got a 2000 4.0l ohv & i removed the 2 bigger cat's and left the 2 little ones up by the front with a turbo 2 muffler and it sounds good. not v8 good, but nice tone!

Actually stock cats are EXTREMELY restrictive... I can't help on the xploder question, but i am a long time Mustang driver and OEM cats (unless they are the new generation cars) are VERY restrictive.

I took the cats off on my 02 Sport Trac and I would not suggest it. If your going to do anything buy a new exhaust system, or if you still want to straight pipe it put new headers and delete the cats. Also check with the state you live in because if you delete the cats you will not pass emissions and then not be able to get registration. Here is a video of my sport trac with the cats on but with a Flowmaster Pro Series 40. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RV6Ni7i9NYk
