I have a 97 Explorer with the 5.0 302 cid in it with the 4r70w trans.

My issue is when I stab the gas from a stop it initialy hits then pauses (drops rpms back to idle) then picks up again to haul ass. It only last a fraction of a second.

I dont have to stand in the throttle fully for it to do it. If I just take off from a stop easy and if I agressively apply throttle it wants to studder as well. Anyone ever experience this. It doesnt do it at any other speed other than starting from 0-5mph

Any codes? If not how long since the last tune up?

Any codes? If not how long since the last tune up?

Im going to scan it tomorrow to check for codes. I know its gonna need plugs and wires. Its firing on all cylinders and runs very strong. Just this strange problem. Its not fuel pump or filter. I was thinking a sensor maybe. TPS, MAF, who knows. I was just trying to see if anyone had ever had this problem

Check the fuel pressure, the regulator might be going bad.

Does it seem like once you hit 20 MPH a switch is flipped and all the power turns on?

Seems like techieman33's truck does this also.

Its even before that. Just initially when I leave from a stop or barely rolling. I can hammer the gas and it hickups (the best way I can explain it) and then grits down and runs like a raped ape. Btween 3/4 to full throttle it does it. And not 100 percent of the time. Some instances are more prominent than others

I replaced the thermorstat today as it was broken in pieces in the housing and it runs in closed loop now and doesn't seem to act up. I am having an EGR issue. I am getting Vaccum to the Solenoid and power to the solenoid but no vaccum to the EGR valve. The valve is new as well as the solenoid so Im replacing both again as to hope to replace a faulty diaphram or something in the valve. Its bugging the **** out of me. Ill find out tomorrow, but this morning when I went to drive it to the shop I couldnt get it to stall. I think the thermostat could have created part of the problem though as the computer never detected the truck running at temp so it added more fuel to the mix and I think that may have been freaking it out hence the weird hickup.

Update on the EGR pro...it was the sensor on top of the EGR valve. Had no gasket between the too so was unable to create the seal needed. Also havent had any problem with the hickup bause the computer actually senses the temp comming up to 205-210 so its not over slamming it with fuel.
