Explorer A-Pillar Rattle/Noise

Thanks for the vid. I'll be picking up my Ex this week and I'm pretty sure they made corrections at the factory a while back. It's just nice to know that if I hear that sound, I know what it is.

sounds like air being sucked back in the window and vibrating the plastic cover

Not sure, think it's the gasket or maybe the exterior plastic. Replacing the gasket with thicker more robust material seems to solve the problem. Now for us to move along and fix another glitch for the 2012 model. LMAO!!!!!!!

they should remove some metal from the injection mold for that plastic piece and make it thicker.

but that would take more plastic, and raise the cost

I don't have my EX yet...hoping this week. But, I do have to chuckle at the sound!!!
Gosh..I hope mine doesn't have "fart" issues.

No way, I picked up my Explorer 4 days ago and drove it on the highway one time so far and noticed that noise. I can't believe it's a "known issue". I thought it was a quirk that I probably wouldn't notice again....that sucks!

Hey nharris,
What was your build date?

My Build date was 3/16, delivered 4/1. I have the sound, but not frequently. Will get it fixed. Does anyone know if Ford has issued a standard fix yet?

That would annoy the living hell out of me...

Thanks Chimoman! I have it but it will be unlikely for the dealer to hear it. Did your dealer know about the problem?

No, they said that they would have to test drive it to see what was making the sound. I told them what it was and they said that they would have to hear it. When I put up a stink the manager said they would fix it. He said he did some digging and knows that the thicker gasket will fix the prob. It's not the dealers it's Ford HQ that has to say fix it. The dealers get the money back from Ford when it is recognized. Cheers

I had been scheduled for Friday, and they called today to say the parts are back-ordered. Customer Service has called about three times since getting a case assigned. They will call me whenever they get the parts.

Did you have Cory escalate to Ford Customer service first or did you go to the dealer first? How did they know what parts to order?
Thanks

I just waited for the fourth of four parts to arrive. At the time that i had my parts ordered Ford was about ten days away from releasing all of them. The fix is totally sweet. I have zero A pillar rattle at interstate speeds in any direction with winds up to 65 mph. And in New Mexico spring time is very windy. Cory can't really speed up a parts order.

I have a 2011 Limited that was built on 3/4 and we are seeing the A-Pillar noise issue when there is a strong crosswind on the highway. I called my Ford Dealer and of course he has never heard of this issue and can't find any TSBs on this. He is saying that they will have to hear this issue themselves before they can fix it. Is there an updated TSB number that they can look up? If not is there anything I can do to not have to 'demonstrate' this very hit or miss issue?
