Explorer A-Pillar Rattle/Noise

yourstone, could you possibly post the part numbers that were ordered. My better half was on a trip this past week and called me on the way home, she said she was picking up a noise on the left of the windshield.I told her what it probably was. When she arrived home I took the Exploreer up the road and was able to hear the A pillar vibration at around 65 mph.I had it to the dealer today for oil change and explained the problem to them. They have not had any experience with this problem.I had him read this thread on this forum and he is concerned.
Our Explorer was built 2/9 and delivered 3/3.We are very happy with it and hope to get these small bugs adressed.

I don't have the part numbers. I will contact my dealer to see if they will email me with those numbers so that others here can benefit from that information. My A pillar noise is almost entirely the left one, 55 mph or higher, and a strong crosswind.

Can you find the PN for both left and right. Not sure if this rattle is isolated to one side or both. If getting it done then I would want both done to prevent future trip back.

Mine was built on 3/16. Took delivery on April 1.
I have the pillar noise in the right pillar so far. Have not yet notified the dealer.

I just sent a message to my Ford dealer's service department. I asked them to list the part numbers for me. If they do that then I will post them here.

Primarily my left A pillar will rattle. And with just the right crosswind the right one does too. The noise is isolated to the middle of both. My dealer is going to do both. They have ordered four parts. So I assume two parts for each A pillar.

Hey,
Just brought mine in today to have it looked at. Service guy said there is no TSB out on it. But, when I brought him to look at it, he agreed that the Gasket on the A pillar was extremely flimsy. I can take one finger and lift up on it. Can anyone tell me how to attach a picture on here. I can show you the culprit. Thanks. Oh, if anyone knows the parts numbers can you please post them up. Thanks.

Hi,
Monday I take my Explorer in to have four parts replaced. The fourth of four parts arrived today. I will get the part numbers on my invoice on Monday and then post back to this site.

I had in mine today, i mentioned that its been documented on here that people are having problems, they took the pillar apart, said they couldnt find anything loose, completely now how i explained it to them, so when it happens again, ill take it back.

I love this new Explorer. I hope Ford can remedy the A pillars, the seat rattles, and the MFT issues that some are having. My MFT/sync work beautifully.
Hi Steven,

What Seat Rattle issue are you referring to? Also can you post some picture of the A Pillar Gaskets that everyone is referring to?

I would like to acknowledge your great help on providing info to people on facebook and explorer forum.

Thanks,
-Parixit

hes referring to the 2nd row seats. When there is no load on them, they shake and rattle horribly.

Thanks of a quick reply. Does this happen on models built before or certain date (i.e. March 14)? Wanted to know if I need to be concerned about this. Mine was built on March 14 and I am going to pick it up tomorrow from Dealer.

Thanks,

My explorer was built in March and I also have the same a-pillar issues. Taking it to the dealer in a few days. Also, my 3rd row seats will not fold...only one of them will. Does anyone else have the 3rd row seat issue?

Did you make sure the button is set to both. When looking from the lift gate the furthest button must be set in the middle for both to fold. If it is in the up position the left seat will fold, all the way down the right one will fold and finally in the middle position both will fold. If you already knew this I apologize. However, it caught me off guard the first time I folded them up. Then I looked at the buttons a little closer. LOL.

Thanks! I feel a little silly because I did not look at all of the buttons. I just knew that it worked one day and the next it didn't. Just fixed it thanks to your info.

They really should have a cover. Cargo can shift and hit the buttons. I've had mine three months and did not know about the independent operation until last week when the button got punched and I had your same experience.

Hey guys,

I wanted to come in and lend Seni a hand. She has been doing a great job and I would also like to help. I can see why a noise like this would become annoying, and I would like to reach out to assist. If you haven’t already done so, please send a private message with your VIN, dealer name, and approximate mileage.

Cory

Hey Cory. Good to see you on this thread. I have part 4 of 4 arriving at my dealer today. Then I will take the Explorer in on Monday for the day to get the parts replaced. So far the dealer has not given me the specific part numbers for the benefit of others to know.I love my new Explorer. The A pillar rattle is not loud but noticeable at 55 mph or higher with a good crosswind blowing too.

I took mine to the body shop today to have the A pillars looked at, when he pulled the trim pieces off they had broken clips on the bottom end. Dealer is to order new ones & when they go on they will be reinforced with double back sticky tape. The rubber gasket isn't the problem, it's the plastic trim piece vibrating in the wind when it gets between the rubber lip & the plastic trim. This area will be sealed with the tape under the new trim piece when it goes back on.

Just a thought , as I brought this up way earlier when this issue started to apper . Woud it not make sense to simply seal the area underneath with clear silicone ? As it will seal the area and act as an adhesive as well. My ex is due to be built this week, I will check it all out when it is delivered ,maybe do this myself if (when) I have this issue.
