Explorer A-Pillar Rattle/Noise

Actually we are back to square one. My wife finally got to drive the car on a highway, at 35 miles per hour, the noise starts, then at 60 the parts fly off the car.

Needless to say, this is totally unacceptable. We are at a point that we would like Ford to take the car back. After all, 600 miles of have been miles put on by Ford testing driving the EX.

Here are the photos she just took. I just got back in the country and this is how I am greeted.

What a joke of A-pillars... held by velco:thumbdwn:

some of that is called "rattle tape" per the paper work that was sent.

Ford is now coming to get the car from my wifes work on Thursday and dropping off another loaner car. So far the car has been in the shop for 37 days.

From another thread.

Update on the wind noise. Dealership called today said the car was ready. I so I was in the area so I stopped in to take a test drive.

So got on the highway and it has improved slightly but at 70 it shows up again and now its in a different location. Now its right infront of the driver on the top side...so if you were tyring to use Sync or be on the phone it would be difficult. In addtion, I noticed another section on the paint that has to be repainted. It's as if the base coat didn't adhear to the body panel and then they shot clear over it. Same issue we had on the rear Qtr panel.

So needless to say, I didn't take the car home, they are keeping it. Now they are going to have a Ford Tech fly down from the home office and try to fix it.

Ford did offer to pay a car payment for us since they have had the car for over 30 days now. I am done with this car.

I would like for the dealership to just keep it, give us our money back (We put over 13K down and another 1200 for headrest monitors, plus TTL) and we'd gladly buy another Ford but not another EX.

BTW, our build date was June 11th. Seems to be a number of folks here with June build dates with this same issue.

Dunno, but that is how frustrated we are.

Lastly, Ford put another 150 miles on the car.

What's the lemon laws in Texas ?

Here in ct, if the dealer has the car for 4 attempts to fix the same issue or 30 days overall, you are eligible to file a claim.

Ha! Gotta love ol' Joe.

The dealership has had the car now for 33 days. I feel they are trying to force us to drive this car with all the band aids on it. So we have contacted at Texas Lemon Law attorney.

I am not satisfied with Ford on this. We are loyal Ford Owners. Having had 2 F150's, 1 Mountaineer, 1 Expedition, and I drive a King Ranch F250.

Ford could be loosing us. I am due for another heavy duty truck and I am starting to rethink staying with Ford at this point.

We'll end up with an Oasis report that will be littered with hits affecting the resell of the car. Not to mention, Ford has put near 700 miles on the car testing it.

Rollingrock,
I see that you have a follow up from a Customer Service Manager soon. I can arrange for them to call you as sooner, so please send me a PM letting me know whether you’d like me to do that or not. I’m confident this will be resolved for you once and for all.

Cory, I dont' know who that is, Latoya or the local folks. We left 3 messages since Thursday asking for an update. Starting to get the run around with folks. The Operations Manager at the dealership said he was personally going to fix the car and test it, yet he was on vacation while another band aid was put on the car. So he didn't personally fix anything. I test drove the EX again last week it and its still there. The sound has moved to a new location right infront of the driver. So if you want to use Sync, it's not going to work right. I feel for anyone on the phone listening, they will have to hear it as well. We don't feel like it is right to spend 38K on a car and "live with" a wind whistle issue like this. My boxy F250 doesn't do that, no car I have every owned has done this.

On my last test drive last week, they asked an older gentlemen to ride with me and he said he couldn't hear the noise but it was just as loud as the videos I posted.

At this point Cory, my wife and I don't want the car back. The resell value is drastically affected now by the length of the Oasis report.

She is afraid to drive the car and the longer we deal with the problem the less likely we feel Ford will help us. We are willing to buy another Ford product but we are running low on patience at this point.

We have dealt with the popping noise when turning, the paint issues that were not painted (Meaning that paint was actually missing from areas on the car) The Sync issues, and finally the biggest issue of all the wind noise which no one seems to be able to fix. So many different poeple from the dealership have been in the car its hard to keep track of all of their opinions...some here it some don't....then tell us it's fine. Then I show up and get on the highway and within 30 seconds the noise is still there. How is it when I show up and drive it, it magically appears?

As you can see, this is really frustrating us. It would be refreshing if Ford would do the right thing and buy back the car.

Thank you for your reply, Rollingrock. I’ve arranged for your area’s Customer Service Manager to call you tomorrow morning as soon as possible. Please PM me with any additional details so I can forward them before you’re called later today.

man,,,,i'm supposed to be taking my explorer in for the A pillar rattle this week and i hope i don't have to go through this.....i'm tempted to try to just fix it myself. my car is only 2 weeks old and i'd hate for people to be getting in and out of the vehicle and scuff up my interior.....it always happens.....

A Pillar Rattle is an easy fix, the wind noise that I have will seem to take an Act of Congress to fix.

I have had my passenger side A-pillar repaired twice. The first fix only lasted two weeks. It has been almost four weeks since the second fix and it seems OK so far. The invoice said that they used the same parts both times, so there must be a technique difference.

Good luck with your fix.

Please Help!!

I too am experiencing the same wind noise, A-piller buzzing and the dealer cannot reproduce it, or fix it. I am new to this forum but would appreciate any help resolving this issue without further frustration.

It’s great to see you joined the forum, bramack. :) I checked my inbox to see that you sent me a PM mentioning that you’re in Canada. I can assist customers in the US and since you’re in Canada, I recommend calling the Ford of Canada Customer Relationship Center @ 1-800-565-3673. A live agent will be happy to help you.

Not happy here with my Explorer. Still have the extremely noisy interior and a Ford Field Service Engineer came out to my dealer and said there was no problem, hence they won't fix it. The hands-free phone is impossible to use as the person you're calling cannot hear a word your saying due to the excessive whooshing sounds from the noise.

This car has spent more time in the shop, (see at least 10 days), for a brand new auto than ANY other car I have ever owned. Oh, forgot to mention that the dealer had to replace the front left strut on delivery yet it still continues to make groaning noises when you make a right or left turn or go over a speed bump. I feel like I'm in the ship of a hold with the horrible creaking sounds it makes.

Would love to be the recipient of some sort of Customer service on your end Ford

Whistling noise

Hello,
New guy to the Ex Forum.
Just purchased a 2012 Ford Explorer XLT last week, and I took it on my first road trip yesterday. Noticed the same whistling from my Driver side A Pillar going 80 mph. :frustrate Not what I would expect from a new vehicle with 500 miles on it. Sounds like there should be a TSB for this.
