Explorer Front End Clicking

That’s great news, Ajar. I still have your VIN from previous messages, so let me know via PM if you run into any troubles.

Hi Cory,

Thanks for your offer of assistance to help. The clicking noise was fixed after 9 days in the shop for the strut replacement.

Unfortunately none of the cosmetic issues that were present, acknowledged and assured a quick fix by the salesman at delivery are being addressed and I'm being given a complete run around and brush off by the sales manager & salesman. Not a nice feeling after buying a $50k car from them.

I'll PM you the details before publicly dragging them thru the mud.

Best regards,

Alex

2011 LTD Explorer - Frontend Clicking

Hey all, new to the forum but saw this thread and wanted to chime in. I have a 2011 Explorer LTD (love the vehicle since they upgraded the MFT), anyway a few weeks ago I began to hear this distinct clicking noise when backing up and while under load (like into my slightly inclinded driveway over the curb). I took it to the dealer and was able to reproduce the noise. It has been in the shop for 9 days and they have identified the problem as the front CV joints. They ended up replacing the entire drive axles on both sides in the front. I haven't picked it up yet to see if it is actually fixed but will post back and let you know. The vehicle only has 28,000 miles on it.

Welcome to the Forum wolfe123:wavey:
I hope they get it fixed. I think this is the first post about replacing CV joints.
Good luck. It's a great vehicle, when it's working the way it is supposed to.:)

Yikes! Both drive axles at 28k miles? That is a bit concerning... Those joints usually go bad from ripped CV boots... Was the clicking from one or both sides?

Clicking was from both sides. They replaced one side and noise still present and then replaced the other side. Noise has not returned since I picked it up late on Friday. We will see how it goes

Maybe it was just a fluke thing... My issue 4,000 miles later seems to have completely addressed by the repair.

Knocking on wood for us both....

Front end clicking noise

My 2011 Explorer Limited with 29,000 miles just recently started with the front end clicking noise. I’ve had it in for service and they were able to replicate the problem, but stated there is nothing they can do at this point. Is there a planned or a current TSB out for the repair on this issue? Thank you in advance.

Is it the exact same thing as in my video? If it is... That is definitely something that can be fixed...

Hi SCLEM,

I'm happy to step in and get this concern escalated to your regional customer service manager. To get started, send me a PM with your VIN, preferred servicing dealer, daytime phone number, and full name. I'll take it from there!

Our 2011 xlt started with this clicking noise now at 25k miles. After reading so many posts I have seen the axels, stuts, control arms and the frame welded or punched. How can so many things need to be replaced for the same noise that is being described. Since leasing this truck ford has had it for a total of one months payment of time fixing things. Hoping a real tsb fix is posted for this before we take it in for service and before doing so we always contact the rep on call here. This solves the we replaced the whole front of your car and it didn't fix it story.

Let me know when you're ready to go in for service, jeff59rt1. I'll be happy to get your case escalated and into the hands of your regional customer service manager. When you're ready, send me a PM with your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name.

Thanks!

2013 Ex Front end noise!

Well here we go again...only 4,000 miles and the front end is making a clicking noise. It's coming from the right side front tire area! Took it to Ford and of course it stopped making the sound and they said they cant find anything wrong!

Here is a new video of the sound.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i59ck2NJ_zU

Anybody have any idea what it could be?

uploaded a new video

I realized the first video wasn't available. now I think it's right...please let me know

I can hear the noise but there is no actual picture when the noise is being made. How is the noise produced? Does it occur when driving or standing still? What are you doing to make the noise appear? I would say that it is a kind of metallic sound, almost as though something is loose.
My first thought was a loose shock/spring/strut if you are bouncing the car as you would in testing for shocks.

Hey Peter, the noise is in the right front wheel well. I put the camera on top of the tire. The noise happens when the car is bouncing over bumps or when you bounce the car like I was doing.

I guess that explains why the video seemed to disappear between the start and end of the recording. Still seems like something is loose. Have you tried doing it with the hood open? It looks like there are 4 nuts that hold the strut assembly in place on the frame. Do they seem secure when you bounce the vehicle? If you can't find anything and can reproduce this sound, perhaps you should take it back and let them listen to the video, if you haven't already done so. Maybe that will help them try to isolate the problem.

Peter

looks like you blacked out the camera and are banging a pipe on something.... Funny joke? :-/

if not, get it to the dealer.

Hi GeoMimi89,

I can help by getting your regional customer service manager involved. Just send me a PM with your info (VIN, dealer, current mileage, daytime phone number, and full name) and I'll move things forward.

Great suggestions/ideas all around, folks!
