Explorer Front End Clicking

pop noise

We have a 2013 that had a very similar issue and ours had 5000 miles. We took it to the dealer and these guys were not sure what it was until the shop manager drove with my wife and she reproduced the noise. He said it was the ABS sensor. They repaired the sensor and the problem went away. If you need to see the work order email me directly then maybe you can take that to the dealer. It sounds like this might be an issue that Ford should consider doing a recall on since I'm hearing more and more about people having the same problem

I'm quite sure you won't see a recall on this issue. A TSB, perhaps but no recall.
Although there are several posts about 'front end clicking' noises, they did not all seem to have the same 'fix'.
Although I'm not 100% sure, I believe yours was the first ABS sensor replacement. Hopefully it may help in getting some of the other unresolved ones repaired by bring attention to a possible senor issue.

I have a 2013 Explorer Sport and have noticed the front end clicking when making right turns. The clicks seem to come from the driver's side front wheel. I have a video that shows the problem:

Is this noise similar to what you guys have experienced? If so, what fixed it? Thanks!

This is the exact same noise that our 2013 Sport is making. Gonna take it in soon.

Yeah that's really weird...

I have not heard anyone else's clicking noises, but if I was a betting man, I would of bet the sound in the two you tube videos was the same.... and came on similarly, yet were fixed with two different fixes.

My noise never came back and we just dropped the car off today at Ford on it's last trip.... traded it in on a 14 Sport that's not due in for another 4 weeks...

Missing her already... but soooo excited for the Sport!!! :)

Perhaps I'm having the same issue. 2004 Mercury Mountaineer 4.0 FLEX. I noticed about two weeks ago that when coasting at lower speeds, say 30-45 mph, I hear a clicking noise. It's not super loud like in the videos posted here. It just goes click click click click and as I come to a slower and slower speed, it disappears.

I had my son hang his head out the window and he says it's coming from the front passenger side. Now, when this started, just a few days ago I had the wheel and front suspension off in parts while changing out my upper control arms and I didn't notice any ripping of the CV boots or anything like that. Lower ball joints look good. No ripping on the boots.

Now, I want to say, but not for sure that I heard this same clicking sound from the left side, but cannot anymore. That is because yesterday i replaced the driver's side front wheel hub because I was getting a growling noise from that side when making turns.

So i guess what I am asking is, could it be the ABS sensor that is causing this like other's have posted, or does what I have sound different?

I have clicking when reversing fairly quickly now and when turning left...sharp left at a good clip. Also with pedal roughness...

Same here all of the above, and a faint ticking going down the road that's totally speed-dependent. PI Utility with 33k miles

I am calling monday and it has to go back in as they said the new PTU they put in fixed it..but it didn't...so back to the drawing board..maybe new trans next possibly they said? Or suspension parts?

But you have the roughness as well as clicking? If i find the answer i will let you know as they will start replacing more parts here next time it goes in

My 15 sport clicks. Dead stop, D or R, slowly (or even better with a little gas) start accelerating. Windows down, enclosed walls like a drive thru, or garage, or service bay help to hear it. The service manager tried the thrust washer tsb, this made it worse. We are going to replace both front axle half shafts next time I'm down for service.

Did you ever get this resolved? Do you have a 2015 or 2016? Your profile says 2016. Thanks.
