Explorer parts on bronco II?

DO THE ENGINE AND TRANNY AT THE SAME TIME, THEN WORRY ABOUT THE AXLES.
When you do the axles, get the Explorer Transfer case and driveshafts. the rear driveshaft will have to be rebuilt (Shortened)

When you do the axles its also the perfect time for the lift.......

Heyyou dont have to tell me I have pieced mine together for 7 years now, I have parts from 84 to 2001 in there...........

Thanks 410. I really appreciate it! I just bought The electrical/vacuum and main dealer manuals for the 88 bronco II. Should I also Focus on getting the Explorer manuals for the wire splicing and all in the harness.
I've read that the 89 BII is easier for the 4.0 swap. Now should I just swap over the complete wiring from one B2 to the other in the meantime to make the 4.0 swap go easier?
I've got an 89 for a parts truck and an 88 daily driver. I can swap out all the electrical if I need to.
Now is there any difference between the 93 or the 94 explorer engines? Once again, thanks!

There is no difference between an 88 and an 89 Bronco2.
The main changes in B2s happen between 85-86 (carbed to EFI), 87-88 (change to smaller TBs and stonger heads), and I believe those are the only changes, other than cosmetic changes.
Oh yeah, somewhere between 88-90 (I think?) they switched from dual fuel pumps (low pressure in-tank and high pressure in-line, to a single high pressure in-tank)

the wire harnesses are different, Fuse block etc...

Actually, this is not true. There are a lot of differences btw the 88 and 89's. The biggest being the dash and wiring layout.

Wolfpax, email or pm me if you are interested in a complete drop in 4.0L conversion harness for your 88. All accessories, guages, lights, etc.. will work.

Brett

There is no need to swap 89 stuff into your 88 and then wire up the 4.0L, Brett can get you a plug and play harness for your 88 that will retain all functions (cruise control, A/C, guages, lights, CEL, etc..)

the end result is better then anything Ford ever put under the hood..

Want to see some pictures of my 4.0L conversion and harness?

You are in luck, a new 4.0L is going in my truck this weekend and I plan to get some updated pictures of my conversion and layout......(88 2.9L to 93 OHV 4.0L)

Dont fool yourself, the wiring is not that simple to figure out. Brett and I have MANY hours of research in this stuff, there are changes in virtually every year of wiring harness and you have to know what you are looking at if you want to do it right, there is only 1 right way to have it done, otherwise it is wrong.

I'm glad you told me that cause I thought it would be some hard work figuring out but I didn't realize how difficult it would be.
Do you think it would be a better option to swap the dash from the explorer as well?
I would love to see pics!
Brett, You have mail.
Thank you all.

The only reason to swap inthe Explorer dash is because you like the looks of the 89+dash.
It is harder to swap the dash out then it is to swap out the engine if that gives you an idea of how much work it takes....

there is a writeup on therangerstation.com about that conversion.

It does not make the wiring easier, it creates more work

Thanks 410. I am familiar with that writeup on TRS site. I think I'll save that for another rainy day.
I have a strong knowledge of dealer wiring schematics. I work for a dealer and use them on a daily basis.
Is it possible for a nonFord tech to do the wire harness mod?
About how long did it take you guys to figure out and lay the first working harness?
I just wanted to know to get a general idea of what I am looking at before I dive in.

axle swap

sorry to butt into yalls shindig here but let me ask 410 or brett, how hard would it be to swap in a dana 44 from a bII to a 94 x xlt? what would i be looking at here?

BIIs never came with Dana 44s (at least, to my knowledge). I think they were all D28s.

he must mean the fullsize bronco. they had dana 44 ttb in them from '80-96 and so did the f-150

what would i be looking at to swap with the axle, ex: transfer case, drive shaft, trany?

Swap what? From what? You haven't clarified what axle/vehicle you are talking about.

Did you mean a D44 from a Big Bronc or F150? If so, what years? Or did you mean a D28 from a Bronco II?

i want a dana 44 in a 94 Explorer xlt. i dont know what vehicle to get it from but if they have it in a bronce I or old F-150 what else would i need to get from that donor truck to put in my 94 x?

what does ttb mean? all i know is a dana 44 front axle is an awesome front axle and i think its a straight axle right? unlike the axle i have now.

TTB=twin traction beam, which is the front end like you have. Ford makes a TTB D44 available on '80+ Broncos and F150s. Ford also made solid D44s, which were available on pre-1980 Broncos and 1/2 Ton Pickups.

Look through the "Projects" forum for threads with SAS in the title, and the "Solid Axle Swap Registry" forum and do a lot of research.

There are several routes you can take to put a solid axle in the front of your X. Everything from Jeep Wrangler D30s to Ford fullwidth D44s, each having advantages and disadvantages. The trannys and t-cases from NONE of these vehicles are going to work with your X.

After reading through ALL the info that is available in those threads, you are still going to have some questions for your particular situation. At that point, you should start a new thread in the "Projects" or "Suspensions" forum with your questions concerning SASs.

Good Luck!!

Okay I finally purchased a 94 X. I am going to pull the engine and tranny and see how that goes. Any upgrades I can add to the engine while it's out? The oil pan, and the valve covers are leaking pretty bad so I will replace those while the engine is out.
Anything you guys suggest me doing? I want to do everything now while it is out.
Thanks for everything guys!

Do an oil pump to be on the safe side. ;)

And welcome to the board.

P.S. How about some pictures to go along with this.

Thanks for the welcome SVO. I would add pics, but I am one of the few who doesn't have a digital camera. Maybe good ol' St. Nick will bring me one this year. I am sure this will take a while.
I want to do it right and save as much time as possible by doing everything to it while it is out.
It's getting pretty cold out and that will make things go a little longer. I will keep you informed with what I am doing or plan to do.And if I do get a cam I will add pics as I go along.
Thanks again.
