Explorer XLT 2000 with issues - help please

I've got an easy fix for your window problem and you don't even need to take anything apart. The issue is that the window channels get worn and dirty over time. The binding/glass pivoting happens with power or manual windows, it's just the way the regulator works. Go to Walmart and buy a can of Liquid Wrench brand foaming silicon spray. Using the little straw that comes with the can, roll your window down all the way (help it as necessary) then spray a liberal amount of silicon on and down the front and rear window channels. Problem solved and it will stay fixed for a really long time (did mine over a year ago and the window is still working smoothly). I've used this trick on multiple Explorers/Mountaineers. Worked every time.

Monitors - If you read this, consider making a STICKY out of this fix. Many Explorers suffer from this problem and left unchecked the binding glass will ruin the regulator.
Awesome info - thank you very much. Bit by bit I am fixing little issues on this truck, but it gets better everyday. I really miss my cruise control though. Not sure if it is a major thing to add it after the fact or not. That will be one of the next things I will tackle.

Thanks again

Adding the cruise control to a vehicle that didn't come with it is a bit involved, but someone here has done it recently, so it's doable. Most of all you need to find a donor vehicle for all the parts needed.

I think it was member 429CJ-3X2 who added CC to one of his his Sport Trac's. Try PM'ing him. He's a good guy who has helped me out with stuff in the past.

Something you need to check/do is to make sure your truck has/gets the Ford recall done for the cruise control deactivation switch. It adds a couple of fuses on a short wire harness, which was done to prevent fires if the deactivation switch leaks. The harness will have a large bright blue label on it. Also, do not use the deactivation switch off the donor vehicle if you see red plastic on the switch. These are the switches that tended to leak. The replacement switches have black plastic. You can probably find the harness on the donor vehicle as long as the recall was performed.

Awesome / thanks, great info. Off work today and tomorrow and working around here. Going to try and get the issue with the vacuum leak found and corrected today. Just haven't had time to get to it with work.
