hey eric, our explorer has the mazda 5 speed if i'm not mistaken. if you do plan on doing the swap then plan on spending a little bit of time in the junk yard and possibly try to read the cd-rom manual i burned you the other day.

also you can get a tranny from autozone for $1299 +$600 core if i'm not mistaken for the manual tranny, 18 month warranty.

yeah i did the 5 speed swap on my 2nd gen. and i LOVE IT... it wasn't too bad of a job either. i would highly recommend that route if you plan to wheel a bit. and don't make the same mistake i did if you do it..... get allllll new parts. it will save you a lot of tiem and headache

Yea Im actually gonna start looking around for the parts where is a good place to get the list of parts I need??

Rex I m volunteering you to help me!!! lol

thanks for the help

i got my trans from a local trans shop and all my parts from like advanced auto, couple parts were dealer only tho, like the hydraulic line.... when i went to buy parts i just told them i had a 94 explorer

eric if i have the time i will be more than happy to help. just to let you know this would not be a 3 hour project. i could possibly take 2 days if not more. i'm sure one of the guys that has done it will tell you about how long it will take.

took me 8 days... waiting on parts was some of it, but none the less... definetly not a quick job

alright good news... I flushed my tranny 2 times now..put in some auto tranny lubercant and tune up and now the fluid actually looks marroon....
Now for the bad news...when I took it around the block for a test drive, Od was hesitating really bad... but when I shifted it down to 1st gear manually(with the steering column shifter)and drove then preceeded to shift to 2nd gear manually then drove, my tranny worked perfectly fine no hesitation between gears.. after seeing this I was tottally confused... this led to only one conclusion... my OD sensor or any other sensors in my tranny pan must either be shorted out, because of the water, or just wet and still drying

Does any of this make sense to anyone?
does my idea about my sensors seem theisable?

ps...i know everyone is thinking i should just take it to the tranny shop but I know I will probably end up getting **** by em... so thank you every one who has helped me!!!!

same exact thing that happened when all my automatic transmissions went:( sorry

reset your computer by taking the negitive cable off. That is if you havent done that yet

I had the OD light flashing 10k miles ago, brought it to a shop, they read it - it said 3rd gear was gone... They reset my computer, I havn't had a problem since. The computer can be wrong at times =P And while the OD light was flashing, I had really hard shifts, which was the comps way of telling me to go get it checked out.

Yeah, I went into that puddle full throttle and the engine just died, so I must have got very lucky that I didn't break any connecting rods. You should be ok, these 4.0 motors are built pretty strong, and there have been quite a few who have sucked in water here who have never had problems

:( Strong 4.0? ask my mom about the 64,000 mile fiasco. Too bad ford doesn't have a engine replacement program.

What year is your moms? the 4.0 ohv is alot more reliable than the newer 4.0 sohc.

thats bull **** because my 97 4.0 soch is one though mf!!!! ive done but that 4.0 through hell and back then to hell again...**** ive even sunk it 6 ft under water and it still runs just as strong if not stronger then it did, be4 incident, know that i changed all the fluid

That was your mom's car you sunk? The 4.0 sohc isn't the best designed motor ever. They have a flawed design, and that can't really be argued. No motor runs better after being sunk in the water. You just got lucky.

im with hardazz, ive been running my truck for a year after i dunked it in 3' of water and it runs just as good if not better, the engine is strong and idles just as smooth, so i dont really think the water affects it much

Water certainly does not make an engine run better. Some people get lucky. At most you didn't noticably damage it.

well true but all the preventative measures that were taken probably helped, like flushing everything and doing more maintenance...so yea it could run better
