Extra Gas Tank Install

Hello, I did a search. I know that you can't find an extra gas tank for 2nd Gen explorers anymore. Thats not a problem. I have friends who can fabricate one. I just just wondering how I would go about installing it. I can figure out how to mount it where my spare tire currently is. What I am wondering is how would I run the plumbing for it? Should I have it dump into the first take somehow, or have it go straight into the fuel system? Any help would be appreciated.

Why do you want 2 tanks? I second what Jim said. I'm not sure how those work. Maybe it switches on the fuel pump in the other tank?

I want two tanks becasue I take quite a few long road trips and I hate stopping for gas.

I have dual tanks on my F250 and love it! Wish my Ranger had two now.

well i tell you not to many vehicles have second fuel tanks any more because of the in tank pump. i had thought about doing this my self once but, like alot of things never did. i even got the fuel sell from a bronco 2 it also has a in tank fuel pump. i was going to switch the tanks by useing one way valves and a switch to turn on the fuel pump from the tank i wanted to use. i was also hopeing that i could rig up the sending unit to work as well. the fuel tank didnt cost 50 bucks and that was with the rear tire rack. hope this will help you out

I've thought of doing the same thing with a bronco II tank and the switching components from an f-250. It wouldn't be all that hard to do, the worst part would be hooking up all the electrical connectors. As far as the gauge for the 2nd tank I wouldn't bother using the stock gauge, I'd just purchase an aftermarket gauge. Look on google I'm sure there is some info out there, I've seen this mod done before.

Aux Fuel Tank

You will find an extended range tank here, but might find the freight cost a bit steep. Note that the prices are about $1,295.00 which includes 10% tax that may or may not be payable on overseas orders. Also might want to note that this is in AUD and at present I think it is about .70 cents USD = 1.oo AUD.
