Symptoms:
I can lock and unlock it just fine, but the disabler is still on, red LED on dash still blinks. I can override it with the switch and start the car, but I'd like to fix it rather than deal with it.
How it happened:
I did a tuneup w/ platinum plus 4805 plugs. It ran rough, misfire detected on #2, so I limp back to the garage, I replace the plug wires, reset the PCM, still rough and misfiring. Went out for a tantrum, cursed up a storm, came back with a clear head. I checked and triple checked the firing order, it is fine. Checked the ground points in the engine bay, they were fine. Checked the injectors, they were fine. Hooked up the scanner, ran it till warm, then looked at the sensor data, my MAF is @.67, TPS @ .20 and calc engine load of 20%... THe engine is at idle. The O2 upstreams are new, they are switching fine .3 ~ .8 volts. Downstream is switching fine .4 ~ .7 volts. ECT @ 178 deg, IAT @ 78 deg. ST and LT fuel trim is bunk since I just reset it via batt plug, unplug method. But everything runs fine, but on uphill pulls, it starts missing and MIL starts blinking, I let off the gas and MIL stays lit. So I call up an old friend, we go out get drunk that night, forget about the truck, then yesterday morning. I retrace my steps, as far as installing plugs, checked rechecked, all the sensors in the vicinity for damage. Everything is fine. Great I say a tuneup was to make it run better, not worse.... So I go in again, take out the plugs, regapped them to .054, they were pre gapped at .044! So I celebrate thinking I found my enemy. I reinstalled them, reset the PCM... It ran great for 20 miles, then the same symptoms. I'm nearing the end of my rope. I drop by a parts store, grab some el-cheapo autolite sparkplugs. I take out the platinum plugs, by this time, I'm an expert, no more fancy extensions, just getting the right angle to work with, and they come out in 15 mins flat. Took me 2 hours the first time
. While in there I notice gunk buildup on the threaded sparkplug hole, I take some carb cleaner, wirebrush and clean out the treads. I crank the engine a few times to clean out the cylinders in case I knocked some gunk in there. I change the oil also added stop leak. I disconnected the battery for good measure. I install the new plugs, checked and tripple checked my firing order, reconnected the battery and started her up. No start, I start thiking the worst, I messed something else up, but the red led is blinking, so I go to the over-ride switch. I press it and she starts easily, purring like a kitten. No more white smoke as I stated on my other post, no more misfire, Dag-gone fancy-pants platinum plugs. I start her up this morning, no start, red blinking. I go to the override and she starts easy, and runs like new, no white smoke. But the keyless entry is fine, the disabler is, well, disabled. Help.
sidenote:
I had some white smoke when I start up initially, I was not losing coolant. My theory is that it was burning rich. The cat turns unburned fuel into Co2 and water, hence the droplets I see with the white smoke which I'm guessing is steam. I hope this bit of info helps. I have put 40 miles so far, no probs, everything is running smooth.
