This is kinda a continuation of my other post...

I have been given a factory Ford AM/FM/CD unit, the amp, and the "data cable" that goes with it. I don't have the specifics of the vehicle it was from (or even if the amp and head unit are from the same vehicle). I want to say it's from a Taurus, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, we tried to hook up the deck, amp and cable in my buddy's F-150 (a 93 I think). The deck powered up, but no sound came out. He thinks the amp is fried, but I remember seeing some post here somewhere on the subject.

Anyway, I am thinking of trying it out in my 91 Explorer. I already have a factory amp and I assume it to be in good order. Remember, my harness plug has been cut off at the dash as well as the end of the "data cable." I figured I could run the other data cable back to see if it all will work. My only problem is the fact that I have no plugs to plug into the deck. I know they make all those plugs to hook an aftermarket radio to the factory plug, but do they make a replacement for the factory plug? Or, is there a site somewhere that would have the pin-outs on the back of the radio so I could make something long enough to see if I can get this working?

Or, is this a shot-in-a-million since I don't know the vehicle/year of the radio?

Tell me what the part number is of the radio you are trying to hook up - then I can tell you what kind of vehicle it came out of, and maybe find a wiring diagram that applies. It should be something like "F37F-19B165-AD". If you didn't get sound out of it, you probably need the "shorting plug" that I mentioned in another post.

There is another possibility, in '92 or '93 we changed the voltage level of the amplifier turn-on signal. Some of the factory amps are looking for a 5V signal, some of them for 12V. If your radio is only pushing 5V to an amp looking for the 12V signal, it's not going to un-mute the amp. I'll have to do some digging to try & remember which was which. This voltage level incompatibility can be overcome by switching some pins in the radio connector (I've just got to try to remember which ones).

The radio's number is F7SF-18C815-AA. I don't know anything about the amp, or even if it was from the same vehicle, but I have the amp in my 91 Explorer. The vehicle we were trying to put it in was a 95 F150.

Considering that my harness is cut in the Explorer, I will probably just install an aftermarket radio. We would still like to put the factory Ford CD player in the F150 if we can get it to work. What do I need to do?

Thank you for all your help.

Cobrajeff, did you catch this post, or did it slip too far down the board?

Do you still have this am/fm cd radio F7SF-18C815-AA? If so are you interested in selling it?
