From what I've seen from your MOT, a lot of it is revenue generation, not safety.....

It is that for sure! Nice disks mate, they wont take long to fit....If you want i can trial fit them to mine and run them in for you!
As a test for EF of course............... cough, cough!!!!!!

i cannot beleive they failed an mot on a handbrake for an automatic! seems very harsh seeing as weve got 2 seperate brake systems that in case the front is cut on the trail the rear is still working!and vice versa oh well at least you get a few days to fix it,good luck h

Cheers Dude- it sucks dont it! Even when well adjusted- we can drive off no problem, only thing that will stop a 4 litre v6 Explorer from moving is the damn timing chain- funny that eh?
I will go and turn up the adjusters till the wheel locks and back it off one turn and take her back....Have not got the time to take it apart and inspect..will order a new set of shoes and the parts for the job and do it another time. I think the mot guy was being **** about the handbrake- if he told me b4 he printed out the fail slip, I would have told him I will adjust and maybe I could have had a pass- the other mech as fine with that, been going there years now.

Wish you all the best m8. Mine fails every year due to handbrake. Under the rules of the test the handbrake is considered an emergency brake, which is why we have to have a stupid handle and not a floor peddle. These rules were set out long before abs or split systems or even disk brakes existed.

OK guys, just come in from the rain- its done, a tip for all of you pre mot- the handbrake adjustment is under a rubber grommet on the lower rear of the the hub assembly. The star wheel is turned with a small flat blade screw driver and you turn it from bottom to top on the drivers side, the passenger side is top to bottom. This opens the brake shoes out on the adjuster. Turn the star adjuster till the wheel locks solid- then back it off till it just turns. All of this has to be done with the car in neutral and the handbrake off.
Dont forget it will not be free wheeling because of the diff so expect to feel the weight of the diff as you turn the wheel- get used to the level of resistance by turning the wheels by hand a few times before you make any adjustments- then you can tell what differance you are feeling as you adjust.
If you dont know the state of your brake shoes, take one side off b4 you do this...its safe to assume the other side will be the same for wear...I did and know to change mine sooner rather than later.
PS NEVER- blow brake dust to clear it, go and buy a break cleaner spray, this traps the dust in solution so you dont end up with lungs full of this stuff.
Be safe with the jacks guys!

Yes Howard its an ancient test..not applicable to modern cars- but till its revised we will have to put up with it!
