So I have a few questions about my explorer. I've had my license for a year and love the explorer!

Anyway first question...
I own a 98, 5.0 v8 with roughly 145,000 miles on it. (just turned 20 few months ago)

anyway, When i accelerate, i notice my RPMs jump. even at a low speed
The engine revs pretty high and i can notice a sound difference. Its got a v8 so it has pretty good acceleration but i noticed a loss in that recently. It hesitates a little, almost like the engine is trying to catch up to itself during acceleration.

Here´s an example of what happens: so I pull away from my house slowly and start to speed up (only to about 20-25 mph) and my RPMs jump to around 3000-3500 but the speed stays the same.

Any ideas what this might be? I am pretty skilled and am usually pretty successful when it comes to repairs. However, i have never worked with the transmission. Should I take it to a shop?

My second question is not as severe as the first one, mostly cosmetic. But when i put my drivers side window down, it takes a while to go down, and if its cold....forget it! It doesn't wanna go down. Seems like it would be pretty easy to fix.. is it just the window motor?

Have you checked the transmission fluid? Is the fluid level correct? What color does it appear? You could wipe the dipstick with toilet paper ( for white reference) and post a picture of it for further answers. You might drop the pan and replace the filter and 5 quarts of fluid. Since you are a relatively new owner of the truck I would do that anyway-certainly before scrapping the transmission. A low flowing filter might be the problem.

For the window, you are in luck but need to fix it now. Get some foaming silicone lube in an aerosol can , non foaming will work . with window rolled down, use the little red straw to spray it into the front and rear glass guides. Let it set for a few minutes before rolling the window back up. You might need to remove the door panel and spray it into the channel from below the window also, but usually the easy method works good.

Thanks Jon. I'll try it out this weekend

Sounds like loss of hydraulic pressure. May be as simple as the transmission filter getting loose and dropping into the pan. The 4R70W filter is held by a little band spring, not a screw, and that spring is very weak on some brands. You will know when you drop the pan. If not that, may be time to check the pressure control solenoid (EPC), or even the harness connecting it before digging deeper into the transmission.
