On the OHV engine, is there a gasket between the oil filter housing and the block? Seems I have a bit of a leak from that area...

Yes 99% of all oil filters have a O-Ring gasket in them which butts up to the block.

The gasket is part of the Oil Filter.

Here is a exploded view of a oil filter made by amsoil.

I'll take a look tonight/tomorrow.. I have my old 4.0 lying on the ground and I can pull the oil filter mount off and look. I'm pretty sure there is one in there though as I vaugly remember replacing it when I built the new motor.

I just changed my oil yesterday on my 1993 V6 4.0 and all i seen was the oil filter has a gasket (like 99% all do) and the block has the molded circle for the gasket to mate too.

I don't recall seeing any gasket on the block itself nor do i recall ever changing such a gasket.

I think he's asking about the piece that you screw the filter onto. That part bolts the the block and I "think" there is an o-ring between the mount and the block..

In this pic there is a big yellow bolt holding the filter mount (green) to the block..

Oh that part .. then yes i do think there is a o-ring style gasket on that mating part, but i have never changed one on any vehicle as 90% of the time it never leaks from that area, but of course it can do so for some vehicles.

Edit:

I must get my eyes checked as i missed reading the first post... lol

But yeah-there should be one there-or it would leak:D

Yeah, I figured as much...felt kind of dumb for asking the question in the first place:p:

Thanks folks
