Does anyone know if firestone will replace the tires even if they are not on my explorer. I have a set sitting there that were on before i got my BFG. I was thinking about telling them that i am wroking on it now and that it is on blocks and i thought i would swap the tires now while they are off the truck. I would only say that if they gave me some crap about it though. Anyone know for sure though?

Thanks
Chris

tires off vehicle

Well, apparantly the policy is that people that buy their own tires for replacements will get reimbursed (I'm one of the hopeful recipients of this refund!).........

Thing is you have to have a receipt for the new tires and the old tires themselves......How long ago did you get the BFGs?

If it was relatively close to this recall, I dont see how they could hassle you.........Just tell em you weren't abut to take your life into a gamble and you wanted those tires off!

You definately need to make sure that you mention that you replaced the tires because of the issue at hand, though.......not cuz you wanted bigger tires, etc......:-)

I got them like July 7th I want to say. I'm not sure, but I posted the day after I put them on. I still have the recipt. So you think that if I tell them that I felt threatned but the firestones that they will give me the money for the BFG's? Now that would be awsome!! I would be just as happy with trading in my old ones to get new ones so I could sell them, but if they just give me money for the replacememnts then that is so sweet!! I did have one of those stones seperate on my at the sidewall, that could be another good point to make.

Thanks a bunch. I can't wait to see what happens... I have myfingers crossed....

I can't be positive, but I am pretty sure I saw posts/articles on the 'Net about this issue back in June/early July.....

In any regrd, if your tires seperated (any chance you still have that one or could get the installer to put it in writing that it was??) then you were justified in getting them swapped....

The date may make a difference, it may not.......I know I am ok since I did it after the recall was issued...but they also said that if folks replced them on their own PRIOR tdue to seperation then they will be refunded as well.....

You may have to do some investigation, but I think it will be worth your while.........

Yeah it sure is! I think I am going to see if I can find out where I took my tire and bought the new one and have him confirm that I had a seperation.

Thanks
Chris

Told them they were off up front, should be OK

I picked Expert Tire out of the phone book under Firestone dealers Sat. AM. I told him I had the VDHL DOT code, and that I had pulled them off my wife's Explorer back in the Spring when I put BFG AT/KO's on her truck.

He said he wasn't sure if they were supposed to trade out tires that were off the vehicle. I told him that I had heard about the problems (here, of course!) and I wasn't about to wait on something that invovled the safety of my wife and kid, he totally agreed with me. He mentioned something about a partial reimbursement, and got their paperwork out.

I told him specifically that I had planned to put those tires on my Ranger for street duty after the Firestone's I have on it are done (they're close). I said I'd prefer the replacements to the credit and asked if they could do that, he said he thought they could. He wanted the spare of my wife's truck, as well - he was specific about all 5 tires needed to be swapped.

I figure I'll motor down with the tires & wheels in my Ranger, drop them off, ride around on my muds for a day, and pick up a set of Bridgestone Dueler AT's. Sounds like a good deal to me!

Never thought that Ford and Firestone would make up for the crappy tires they shipped Explorers with. Nice to know publicity like that still works.

Firestone recall: latest update 8/14

Here in San Jose, CA Bay Area, I have replaced my ATXs with Pirelli Scorpions. I was told that I could replace the tires on my own and then pickup a voucher for the cost. While this meant out of pocket expenses to me, it also meant I got Scorpions instead of Wilderness ATs. Supposedly, today was the last day for this self exchange, but I would encourage anyone to press the issue and follow up with their local Firestone dealer.
Good luck.
