I always thought it was strange that I still have a Firestone Wilderness AT (255/70/16) as a spare on my 2001. Firestone said it is ok. The truck came factory equipped with Goodyear RT/S. Anyone else still have an “OK” Firestone Wilderness spare? Just curious.

ya they still make the wilderness last time i looked at tires 2001 is your trk ?? is after the recall so u should be ok if it was under their as a spare when u got trk new probably just bean counters at ford trying to save afew pennies an put a lower cost spare

If that's the original spare, I'd be leary of a tire that is at least 7 years old. Especially if it's been a NE or Midwest vehicle the whole time. Not much sun exposure, but lots of salt spray and other things. Think about it. That's probably a 60,000 mile tire... tops. That means that even at a conservative 10K a year, it's only meant to hold up for about 6 years. I'd change it out for some tire store special of the week. It's only a spare, so you're not going to use it for a while and a tire store house brand can fill that bill just fine.

Ford ran a recent follow up recall to get the rest of the Firestone's. Double check to see if that is one of them. If so you may still be able to get a new tire for it. Good luck,

The funny thing is..I emailed Ford in 2003 and told them I still had a Firestone spare, they told me the recall was "closed" and was out-of-luck if it was still on the truck(not kidding). Then last year Firestone starts a campaign to replace the spares that got missed. My local Firestone dealer said it was ok, I guess I'll get an second opinion. The DOT number says it was made in 2000.

Anyone else have a Firestone spare?

I thought the Firestone recall only involved P235/75R15 size...

Yeah, I have the 225 Firestone spare, I was told it was fine. I need a bigger spare anyhow, given my "real" tires are about 4" bigger...
