imo the 2nd gen manual ohvs and v8s are super long lasting! even the sohcs which have a bad rep are still lasting a long time!!! we 2nd genners expect too much considering v8 and ohv its more the trannies than engines, as the 4/5rs are good, but could do with a bit more improvement, but its not hard to resolve! point being, the 2nd gen manual ohvs and v8s dont die!!! and the 4th gen 6r80 tranny doesnt seem to die!The last auto maker who prided itself on the longevity of its vehicles was Mercedes Benz - in the 1980s. MB's E class and S class vehicles were legendary for their longevity (which in turn propped up those cars' resale values). Those days are long gone.
