Ok, I've actually got a 2.3turbo motor car and I'm doing the ever so popular 130amp alternator upgrade. Here's my question.

I was at the junkyard yesterday and pulled an alternator off a 94 4.0 4x4 w/power everything Explorer but I did not notice if it was an XLT/Limited/base model. Could anyone here possibly clue me in on what the difference between the models are? I'm hoping I picked up a 130 amp because the junkyard is a good hour away from me and I can't exactly make it over there very easily!

Search didn't bring up much for me so I really do appreciate any help, thanks!

Jason

the motors are the same in all 4 trim levels, you left out eddie bauer.

Yeah, It's all just cosmetic and interior option differences. Nothing mechanical is different between them all except for the obvious manual tranny and non power options like windows, doorlocks etc...

my ford service manual lists 95 and a 130 amp.

the book is for explorers/aerostar/ranger.

i will try to find out if the explorer has one or both offered.

the manual does not say and i looked it up at advance auto parts and they list both.

so i would think with air and auto it probably has 130 but i am not sure.

Quicklook, thanks for checking that out for me. I figured that since it was a 4x4 with all power options that certainly it would be a 130 amp.

Leave it to the parts store to make a guy even more confused about something

i just found the answer.

i forgot i had a 1994 explorer brochure and it says:

95 amps (130 amps with limited)

so unless it was a limited you have a 95 amp alternator.

call the junkyard and see if they can tell you if they have a limited and that is what you took the alternator out of.
