Great Price on Rear Air Acutators

My local Ford dealer here in Reno wanted $240 for both actuators to do it myself or $800 for them to replace both parts. This pictorial is a God-send. I searched online and was able to find both Ford OEM actuators for a total of $127 including shipping at OEM FORD PARTS ONLINE. Here is the web address:

After driving around for 3 weeks with a knocking/clicking/ticking in the rear AC area of the explorer, I finally delved into fixing it.

Since nobody else has done a pictoral, I decided to do one.

Here you go! Feel free to use it as a guide. It took me about an hour including time to b.s. with the neighbors.

Happy fixing!

Just what the DR ordered...Great help, Thanks

So The A/C doesn't seem to be blowing AS cold as the front Driver side is. I was thinking maybe the Orifice Tube or the Rear Expansion valve might have something to do with that. Is there more than one Orifice tube in the system? And if so where are they located? I saw the Expansion Valve while doing this repair in the rear left of vehicle.

I hope somebody still reads this thread. My 02 Mounty is just too old for me to spend money on this. I merely need to stop the noise, and apparently can do so by disconnecting the Blend Door Actuator.

No longer carrying kids around, don't really need rear air, BUT...can I do this and set the blend door to permanent cold air and still have AC back there?

I live in the Deep South and don't need heat back there at all.

I have found that if I turn the rear air off it does not make the sound.

Thanks but not working for me. It just started this 5 days ago. Thumps all the time no matter what I do with controls. Wonder if I can just find the right wire to cut without all that surgery?

I had a clicking blend door, not mode door. The keyed portion of the actuators are different but the internal gears that break are the same.

What I did on one of mine was remove both blend and mode actuators. Then I took the two housings apart and put the mode door guts in the blend door since the mode door i positioned for mix of ceiling and floor.

Cost is free since you are taking parts from one actuator and placing in another. Just look at how mode door works and put it where you want.

Now that right there is a git-er-done thang! Thanks.
