Flowmaster Series 40 or 50 for my 4.0L OHV?

He means the visual... I suppose its possible you would fail the smog part without a muff on... but the main reason wouldnt be the muffler... it would be something farther up the line...

Hi all thanks for all of the reply's! This may sound kinda weird, especially after all of the FlowMaster posts, but I went out and bought a Hooker Aero Chamber muffler! I haven't gotten it installed yet, will this upcoming week though. Does anybody have this kind of muffler on his or her Ford Explorer? Anybody know what kind of reputation Hooker Aero Chamber brand mufflers have?

Hope to hear from you all soon!

Thanks

any body try just the 40 series muffler-not the whole cat back with bigger pipe. I am thinking about swaping my out muffler out and the 40 in and maybe a chrome tip. thus saving a little money

Yah, I am thinking of doing that! My Hooker AeroChamber Muffler just isn't deep/loud enough for me, so I thought I would just buy a FlowMaster 40 Series muffler and put it in place of my Hooker muffler. I think it should sound really good, it's pretty hollow so that's always a good sign!

Good luck to you, let's keep in touch so we can chat "mufflers"!

I already have gotten a price quote on the 40 series muffler, but how much extra would it cost to get the dual exits and run dual straight pipes out the back?

Sorry man, I don't know the prices of the FlowMaster Series 40 yet, I will find out though. How mechanically inclined are you, if you just want straight pipes coming out of the dual exit FlowMaster 40 Series then as long as you know how to weld, you should be ok! If you really want a mean sound, then forget the muffler, just run straight pipes from the catalytic converter back, that will turn some heads! However, be careful you don't get any noise violation tickets, those cops can be fools sometimes!

From what I know a cat-back is taking out the old pipe starting at the Cat. and making it bigger. I'm probably wrong so someone correct me.

The only exhaust I have heard was Alec Rosenbaum's Magnaflow Turbo. Rather than Flowmaster anyone used anything else. I'm not looking for a Cherry Bomb but something more beefer than the stock.

I called Flowmaster and talked with a salesman who explained everything and made recommendations, he even sent me a complete catalog that described the various mufflers. I had a 40 series single in/out 2.25 dia on a 99 Dakota V-6 w/ 3.00in pipes and 3.25'' tips. Sounded great but the family could hear me a block away when I punched it. The 40 series is the loudest they make I'm not talking the delta flow though.

Gove the tech's a call@800-544-4761
By the way they have a complete kit for the Explorer series

Thanks for all of the great info Will, I will give those guys a call tomorrow or whenever I have some free time! A complete kit for the Explorer eh... how much did they say it would cost?

No idea just checked the product catalog...lost my prices one

hey just wanna get your guys opinion on this: im going to replace more two original cats with a single monolith(high flow) cat, run 2.25" pipes back to a flowmaster 50 series in the stock location, then run a single out with some adapters to atatch 3inch pipes to the 2.25" outlet on the muff, then run the 3 inch tubing the same way that the stock tubing is. i think that running around 3 feet of 3inch tubing will help me to get a nice hollow rumble wich is what im shootin for. just want to here what ya'll think on this.

I have

Flowmaster

Force II and love that sound!!!

My honey has a Borla on his Ranger and it sounds pretty mean... it's deep but resounding... rumble you can pretty much hear him when he turns onto my street....but it's not loud enough for a noise violation....(they are pretty struck around here)
