One of my co-workers has a '04 Explorer XLT with 4.0. He bought it new and just about to finish his last payment. With 108k on it he said it's only worth $6500... And it's a cream puff!

every corner i turn theres explorers of every year for sale thousands under what there worth

and a good friend of mine has a '96 Passat TDI 5-speed that has gotten close to 60 MPG already! He's rolled the trip odometer over on one tankful!

The TDIs get great mileage, you just have to look at total cost of ownership. For example 1 water hose on our 2000 TDI cost 80.00 and there were 11 of them!

Agreed, my mom has a 2004 Jetta TDI and it cost a fortune in upkeep. When you look at upkeep plus the cost of fuel makes it cheaper to drive my wife's focus at 35ish MPG and $4.29/gal vs 45ish MPG and $4.99/gal.

I have thought several times about trading in my Explorer for a big truck or SUV since they are so cheap right now. Only problem is that my Ex has lost value as well so I am not really gaining anything...

I just looked on Cars.com and found a v8 Ex NBX w/tow package for 10500 w/33K......i cried a little; I wanted an NBX so bad and there weren't any for sale in brooklyn, queens, or the island.

I was at an auction on Saturday when a loaded 04 XLT with 50,000 miles sold for $4,500. It appeared to be in great shape.

yes, I keep track of the explorers on cars.com too. Recent value drop baby!

Now is the best time to by an explorer.

Aviator, DOHC 4.6 300hp.

That is how I joined the club. Bought a used 03 Eddie Bauer with 3rd row factory DVD and 4.6 AWD with 60K for under $10K. The dealer just wanted it off the lot after taking it in a trade on a car. Right place at the right time I guess but the thing is loaded and the owners were in their 60's. Runs like a champ and I dont drive a ton so the gas is not a huge issue.

I bet the price will level once the snow starts to fall around here.

If I had money or space I would jump on an Aviator.

I wanted an Aviator but the cheapest one I found was not in as nice condition as my mounty, had 10K more miles, and was 4000$ more

Yeah, if I could do it again I would have looked around a little more for a Aviator too. Does it have the same 4.6 as the Eddie? I know it have more HP but is the block the same? Also does the Aviator have the same Tranny?

The Aviator has the best engine, the DOHC 4.6, virtually the same engine as a Cobra(cam/intake). The transmission is the best five speed, almost identical to the trans in the Explorer and Mustangs. It's worth the money now if you can find the right colors and price.

iirc the cobras use the 3v 4.6L where as the Aviator uses the 4v

I meant the 4V Cobras of similar years, the Aviator is like the 99-02 Cobra with minor cam and intake changes. The Cobra superchargers can be added to the Aviator with little trouble.

oh ok, because i know starting 03 the cobra used the 3v 4.6L like what the 4th gen Ex/Mountys have.

Just did a cars.com search for Aviators....Still pretty steep around here compared to ex's

Most Lincolns will come from wealthier people, and they aren't bothered by the gas cost as much. They may not fall as much in price compared to what they were, like the Explorer etc are. You have a great trade in vehicle for a dealer car, but those don't give the best deals usually. Check out Getauto.com sometime, they used to be a good source for price checks. They seem to run from 13k and up, not counting those with no price.
