Why is the SU paint code called Amazon Green when my truck is Tropic Green with that same paint code?

What's even more wierd is they dont have the SU paint code for 2001 explorers which is what I got. Well, atleast I can find the right paint if i need it. Thanks

...I would like to further look into this....Could you tell us where you got the info for your color as being Tropic Green ???

...I know places like PPG use the Ford paint ID code as a reference but often times call their paint color for that code another name...

It says Tropic Green Clearcoat on the original window sticker. And the door sticker said SU as the paint code. I could take a picture of both if you want.

Does anyone know the paint name and code for the plastic trim on 99-01 XLT's with the Eddie bauer/Limited styling Fender flares and trim? I have the tubular Running boards that need new paint along with the rear bumper.

...For now. read post #37 and down...

...I would like to find some definite answers as to trim colors, their codes, and what years share them and add them to the first post...

...If anyone has any of this trim color info, post it up...:D

Would the medium platinum be the color for the '99-01' XLT's with the metallic trim to the Front, Rear Bumper, Running boards, and fender flares?

No, they make no reference to New Zealand or England.
As for our models being different, I cant help you on that one..look the same to me.
If you're interested I can post up the break down of the VIN unless you have those details elsewhere on the site.

Hi TEKMAN05,
not too sure on the trim, that is the only code the books list.
My '99XLT is SU-Amazon Green but my flares, bumpers, running board-steps etc are a champagne color and that is not listed in the book nor on my car.

Here's a list of Duplicolor spray paint codes with corresponding vehicle colour codes:

http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/rodi/dupdschart.html

I'm in the process of painting my trim to match the paint and it was good to know that my black = their black lol. I would imagine more useful for other colours.

I guess that just goes to show me me how old my truck is.

My paint code and name are 'ER' - 'Dark Cranberry Metallic'

The sun has turned it into just plain PURPLE.... That's right! Because of the sun, i now drive the Barneymobile....

I have the same problem with mine. I have to repaint some areas and looking at the purple but seeing ER in the code I was going nuts trying to find where it had been repainted and if I could match it..... Finally came to the realization that it is just the sun damage.
But... after compounding and polishing the vehicle a lot of the cranberry came back and now it looks a lot less purple and more to its original color. Dont know if it will work in all situations but thought I would pass that along.

Havent located the dark cranberry paint anywhere local so I will have to order it. Hopefully I wont have to tint the clear coat to match the "purple haze" in the existing finsh doh

i have been meaning to lookup the paintcodes. my '97 came witha few scratches on the arches. so thanks all for the codes here.

My ident badge is on the bonnet jam. UATR, so ebony and Med Graphite.

now to get some and work out the best way to paint the bumpers for a perfect finish. i'm planning to only paint the chrome the same as the arches, leave the plastic natural - see if i don't get carried away.:exp:

(the back bumper is quite rusty where someone has removed the rear step for the Tow Bar to go in)

My rear bumper was rusty too. Mostly beneath the plastic step and some drip marks down the side. Felt really good to sand it all off and get a fresh coat on there (used bedliner). Looks much better too.

Note about the bedliner: I used EZ Liner in a spray can. It's only been a couple of months but it's holding up for the most part. There were several small areas that flaked off when I washed it so I had to touch it up. Mostly inside corners and edges (probably didn't prep well enough in those areas).
Also, wiping it down is a bit of a pain since the texture tends to pick up lint and paper towel fragments. It's like trying to clean sandpaper. I think I'm going to give it a shot of clear coat and see if that helps overall.

wasn't too sure what you meant by bedliner, also thought you were talking about after sanding it was difficult to wipe down. Google enlightened me :D looks like a good solution but can see it would be a pain to wash

Def going for the same as the arches to blend all the colours in. searching round def the Med Graphite Met is the colour for the TR code. een found a site which showed a colour that was closer thean hellfrauds could probably match.

Tempted to get them sandblasted and then start from steel. at least that way i could hammerite the insides and keep the rust at bay. anyone have an idea on price for the sand / media blasting?

woo hoo! i finally know what the name of my paint color is lol Bright Amber.. soo friggen hard to find this color anywhere and i've only seen one other explorer that was i dentical to mine... anywho, thanks for this
