found out something interesting

Sounds like we are on to something. I hope this works out as simple as it sounds. I am sure there are a lot of people that would be interisted. I like the height I have and wouldn't go lower. But others would love to go lower!

yeah i know thats why i put this up there because i know alot of people wanna go 4 to 5 inchs lower then stock and thats wut im doin. ill have pix up asap but i desided to post this because i think any performance shop or in ur own garage if u know how to can do this. just dont blame me if the vehicle falls on u j/k. aight buddys ill ttyl peace

hey come into the chat and we will talk about this

its aight man jamest just came in and this one guy muncheese came in and that was it

I knew it! It made sense and I have never even worked on the IFS.

I gotta ask, what does this do to the location of the brake caliper???

the caliper will still be in the same spot as stock. try to picture the passenger side spindle upside down on the driver's side.... i had to use my hand for it to make sense :D

It is 34 degrees over hear and the thought of going under the truck to look at the spindles is giving me cold chills. I mean, literally. Has anyone looked at the Explorer spindles TODAY and figured this CAN actually work?

I was looking at it, and I think it could work but you would need alot of fabrication to the spindle/control arms. The upper balljoint sits closer to the inside than the lower one. Meaning that when the spindle is flipped it would actually have sever camber to the inside at top. That's after you figure out how to mount the spindle upside down on the ball joints.

The balljoints in their stock position rest on top of the spindle. The weight of the car pushing down on the spindle. Flip them upside down and the weight of the car would be on the nuts of the balljoin studs.

With the spindle flipped the upper ball joint stud (now on the lower control arm)is going to be sticking up. All the force is going to be exerted on the transverse bolt locking the balljoint stud to the spindle. Same deal with the flipped lower balljoint. The weight of the car is going to be pulling on the balljoint down, with only the nut holding the stud to the spindle. This seems very very not safe. Which leads me to believe there is alot of fabrication involved. Probably making new holds for the balljoints so they are not upside down. Also on the passsenger side the two piece control arm would be in the way of the lower(now upper part) of the spindle. You'd have to put a driver side upper control arm on the passenger side(this would eliminate caster alignment control), or cut some of the spindle edge off.

That's what I see.

Edit: Clarification

Sounds like it could work, but your calipers are going to be in a hella weird position on the bottom of the rotor, aside from all the other problems.

But, it could work.

andy- once you get this done you are obligated to take a wheel off and give us mad pics. :D

sounds like the aftermarket needs to machine a dropped spindle? or dont they already??

would be easier and probably better...

I imagine the ball joint would have to be reversed, meaning instead of sticking up it would stick down then when you flip it it would be correct, I dunno I am just guessing....

I sure wish someone made a drop spindle, it would make things a hell of a lot easier.

yeah ill get some pix asap aight guys ill try my best to get them. hopefully ill have them sooner. but right now i got another explorer sitting at my house that i got stuck today after lifting it by doing a toursion twist. its the same year and model as the one i got in the shop right now. hopefully ill have pix soon aight guys i gtg to dinner with the fiance that im about to marry and i gotta ask her mom if its ok for me to marry her daughter lol thats not gonna work out to well because she hates me lol aight u guys ill ttyl and tell u how it all went lol aight gtg bye:D

holy crap! That chat room short speak has got my brain all frazzled....the next generation after us isnt even gonna have full keyboards, just hybonics style keyboards.......

So he's got 2 Explorer's. Both the same year. One is in the shop getting the spindle flop performed for a 4" drop, the other was lifted with a torshion twist and then stuck off road. But he doesnt have time to explain because hes got to go ask his future mother in law for his girls hand in marriage, and its gonna be a shi*fest at dinner because she hates him.

Is that a good translation or did I miss something?

I don't know if I'm reading a thread about suspensions or a summary of As the World Turns.
