ok, when i bought my 97 contor in june of 2001, it had 5% limo on the back and 35% on the front 2
(in michigan, you can do whatever you want to the front, but you can only tint a 4" strip from the top on the front 2 and winshield, but can go as dark as you want)
in that car, i was only pulled over/ticketed for it once, aound march 2002, at like 11pm.....i actually got pulled over for underbodies and he nailed me for teh tint while he was at it. both were fixit tickets, and when i took teh car to the sgt the next day, having NOT DONE ANYTHING to the vehicle, he signed off and dropped buth tickets.

i traded that car in in july 2002 and had not had any more problems.

i got my ex in july 2002, when i traded in teh contour, and in august, i had the wondows done 5% limo from the side view mirrors all teh way back. i have only been pulled over once in teh ex, for green and blue turn signals, and they never even mentioned the tint. i will post dome pics of the tints.

check your states laws

fact is not a lot of cops completely know them....

in CA its anything goes in the rear, nothing on the fronts or the windshield, except an antiglare strip across the top of the windshield....... factory tint is allowed on the fronts

well, its also one of those where they usually wont pull you over for just the tint, they will nail you though if you are already pulled over from something else. funny thing is, i got pulled over about once a week in that contor i had and only once did a cop say anything.

just tint them as dark as you want then ride around with the windows down... no i think legal tint here is 30%

I've had my windows at 20% for over a year now and had no problems. When I know there is a cop around I always throw the front windows down. Looks kinda funny doing that in the winter time though:rolleyes:

Personally, I never got a ticket for tinted windows and all my previous and current cars have them. :knock on wood: My brother-in-law, on the other hand, got 5 tickets at one time while it was parked on the street- one for each windows tinted. He took it to court and showed a receipt to the judge from the tint shop that it was all removed. Judge reduced the price of the ticket from 5 to just 1.

Now the fad is tinting the entire front windshield. I haven't heard anyone get a ticket from those yet.

I have 20% on mine which is illegal in Ma and have never been pulled over. I like 20% because it matches the factory tint in the back. Gives it a nice clean look.

Some guy over on cardomain.com had tinted the windshield of his explorer. He then updated the page with his ticket information and that the tint was gone. hehe

yeah i don't plan on tha windshield but the rest of it .. it seems as though not too many people get ticketed for it so im probaly going to end up doing it

I am right at the limit on mine.
35 fronts and 5 all the rest.
Obviously, no hassles.

If you do want to exceed the limit do your self and the cop a favor, when ( if ) you do get pulled over, click on your int, light and roll down your drivers window.
Those guys have a scarey job. I know I would not feel comfortable walking up to a vehicle I could not see into.
Remember they don't know that you are cool.
They don't know you just like a cool looking truck.
They don't know that you didn't just rob a quick-e-mart and you don't have a loaded glock.

Good advise. I do this on every check point except I roll down ALL windows. Just so cops could see I got nothing to hide. They could even see I have an empty rear cargo area. It just makes it easier for everybody. :)

My Sport has the factory tint on the rear passenger windows, the cargo area side windows, and the liftgate window. The front windows have no tint and there is a four inch blue tint on the windshield

great advise yeah im still a little sketchy on wiether i should cause i don't have the money to pay for the tickets......o by the way does anyone know how much those tickets are

Hey can anyone here tell me what the factory tint is on a 2006 ex EB, i want to do the front side windows, not windshield, and I would like for it all to match!!
Thanks

I just bought this and had the windows tinted this week (two day after I bought it).
I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, that the 2001 explorer sport trac (along with many other cars and trucks) has 20% on the rear windows including the very back.
These images shows a before and after of what I had done.
I put 20% on the front two windows to match the stock back windows.
I also added another layer of 20% to the very back window to make it a total of about 5%.

Like I said above, it's most likely 20%.
