Window Tinting Tickets

You don't seem to like our side of the river much :p:
My city came up with a vague tint ordinance-without a device to monitor. It's at the officers discretion. If he says the tint is too dark to see in, and you do have tint, you will pay the ticket.
Brokeback Mountaineer! I just noticed that. Holy crap that's funny!!! Mind if I use that on my bug gaurd?? LOL!

Never got any tickets for tint. Instead they popped me for my tail lights being tinted with spray tint, but it's ok to have tinted covers.

Hell this is getting even better now. i have my tails tinted BLACK, red light does come though only when on brakes or lights on. However officer said this was not a problem. Wow how things change state to state.

in NY you can have blacked out tail lights, but you can only have 75% tint on the front driver and pass doors. Luckily I have light sensitivity issues so I can get a pass from the docs to go 20 or 30% legally (forget which it is).

you only get popped up here for tint if it's quota time. a kid I knew 3 yrs ago got popped for 35% on his camaro in the mall parking lot...$25 ticket

Seriously you can get away with if you have light sensitivity issues? I'm so going to my eye doctors, id die with out my sunglasses during the day

my light sensitivity is a by product of other issues I have. But if it REALLY bothers you i'd suggest consulting your eye doctor.

I know some people who have done that here, but it seems like a lot of trouble to go through just to have tinted windows.

its pretty dumb to think of all the famous people movie stars and basketball players and baseball players you know nearly everyone of them have that limo tint but some how they are just aloud to fly under the radar since there famous

Illinois used to allow this but they don't anymore. I guess if you have light issues you need to go to your local drug store and buy those really cool old people wrap around your head sunglasses.:thumbdwn:

I sure hope I dont get pulled over. I have 5% over stock on all the back windows of my 4 door. I am pretty sure thats illegal in MA.

How do you go about getting a docs note? Do you have to file it with the state or do you just need to keep that note in your car or something?

Yeah i got pulled over too :(, but i didn't get a ticket :)
They had said that my rear windows were 1% and my fronts were 10%, but i know that they aren't that tinted. The law in VA is 50% in front and 35% in rear, so i am close to the limit ;). I am pretty sure that the tint meters are calibrated correctly but the tint is thrown off by the reflectiveness from the stock tint.

just wondering, what are the laws in FL and NY, and is there somewhere where i can check mine?

in short, my XLT came from FL to NY, n i haven't been driving it (dun work yet) so i want to know if i'm at risk, more so, driver side window is real dark, n doesn't go down... so i can't even try to hide it during the day or anything thnx for any answers

You can check online for the laws...

To have it tested, go to your local state patrol office, and they can test it for you. Probably a tint shop can, also.

Back when I moved to the Peoples Republic of Maryland, I was driving a ZX3 that I had tinted in FL and had no issues with in CO. I had to rip it out because I was a car. The MSP who told me said that if it were a truck.

after reading all of this i know you will get a ticket for over tinted windows but can you get pulled over just for over tinted windows? or is it just a secondary offense?

Nope, you can get pulled over for it. Happened to me. It's just they usually won't unless it is really dark. Often, it will be used as a reason to pull you over if you just look suspicious for one reason or another.
