Window Tinting Tickets

Just to let you guys know, factory "non-tinted" glass has around a 3% tint to it.

So, if you have 20% tint, and a cop tests it, his machine will read 17%.

The 20% on the sides of my Paseo are not quite legal here in CO :shifty_ey

thats why when you get pulled over, you roll down both front windows down all the way before he comes to the X, might save you the ticket next time

I just told the people to tint my fronts the same as the backs on my X. I know its illegal but I have never had a problem with it but I do have my front windows down all the time.

Same. However, Police around here don't even bother with 5% tint usually, so I'm pretty sure I'm ok with whatever I have.

yea i actually had all 4 rolled down an after he gave me a ticket and came back to my car he had his meter device and told me roll them up even tho he hadnt seen them

i got out of paying that 250 dollar fine for my tint all i did was take a few pictures of a friends blue explorer with my lisence plate on it photoshoped the color to match mine and showed them and all i got was a 25 dollat ticket and still got my tint on

Here in NY i got pulled over for my tint, and given a ticket for no inspection... didn't say anything about the tint, just that was why he pulled me over, tried to give me sobriety tests but i had only had one beer so i insisted he just give me the breathalyser

Ummm... No. 3% would be almost pitch black, 3% means that only 3% of the light is coming through. If you throw ANY tint on that window it would be black, like, 'barely-able-to-see-through-it-without-shining-a-flashlight-through-it' black. Most cars I believe only come with like 35% (I don't know exactly, guessing by how dark it looks on my truck) tint on the back/rear side windows, and a VERY VERY light tint on the front side windows, if any.

I think you have it backwards too, they would definitely care about 5%, almost pitch black, they probably don't care about 35% or so.

No, I have it right. I have never seen nor heard of anyone ever getting pulled over or ticketed for tinted windows, and I know plenty of people with 5%.

Oh, ok, I thought you were saying they don't bother with lighter tint, but if it's real dark then they pull you over, sorry bud.

What he means, is that glass has a slight tint to it anyway, and he meant that untinted glass from the factory will read 97%.

...So, I guess today was the day to have my Ranger's tint looked at..

..I was driving thru a neighborhood area in Huntington Beach about 10 a.m. this morning, on a main street...Coming toward me from the other direction was one of H.B.'s finest...They turned left in front of me onto a street, then made a u-turn and got set up for what I call a radar posture...I had my drivers side window rolled down and my pass side rolled up..

..As soon as I passed them they were on me and were lit up...I immediately pulled over and as soon as I got my motor shut off, 2 officers quickly, one on each side were at my doors..

..The senior officer (officer #1), on the drivers side procedes to inform me that in this town, it is a safety issue with tinted windows as they can not see who is driving the vehicle..:wtf:..I think to myself is this a racial reference, or maybe if I was 16 year old kid they would pop me??

...He then ask if I have ever been pulled over...As I try to answer, officer #2 taps on my passenger window to roll it down, and I think it may have been because he seen movement thru the tinted window on my passenger seat, and he did..:D...My dog heard the tap and tried to go thru the window and officer #1 started laughing..He again ask me if I had been pulled over and I said back in 1980...He looked disapointed and again mentioned it was a safety issue as he and his partner walked off...That was it...The whole thing took about 2 minutes from the time they lit me up, till they left...

...I didn't even get a warning, a ticket or nothing...They seemed very disappointed..:shifty_ey

...This is my ranger with both windows up...

...And for those who don't know, this is my attack dog in her truck...:D

That's crazy dark tint  They'd have a fit over mine if they didn't like yours. I guess I can never live in CA- If I bought your truck, I'd get it re-tinted darker.

That and they'd be upset when I had to lean over there and crank the passenger side window down.

...lol, I have to roll windows down too.. Thats why officer #2 had to tap on the window..:D

..I actually have a lifetime warranty on my tint against scratches and tickets...If needed, they will remove the tint and re-install for free, after it's signed off.....I forgot to mention 4 of my 5 neighbors are cops...;)
