Front brakes

Hi new here but I have an 2012 explorer 4wd 6 cyclinder, put all new rotors and pads all the way around and know im getting a clicking every time I hit the pedal and its def coming from the front. I took them back apart and made sure the caliper springs were in the right spot and everything is greased up real good, Thoughts? Thanks

Could it be that there is a gap between your caliper piston andr and your pads? If so, then that could be the culprit because I had the same problem after compressing my caliper pistons all the way back.

That was on your rear calipers. The front calipers do not have the same mechanism.

verbalclap - Does the clicking happen once or a couple times when the brakes apply, and then stops? Or is it a constant clicking when you apply the brakes? Does it vary with wheel speed?

If it is constant and varies with wheel speed, I'd look for something that is rubbing, or is out of place. Those little springs were a PITA. I took a pic of them before I removed them so I could make sure I got them back in the right place.

If it happens once, or a few times, as you apply the brakes, I'd look for something in the caliper mechanism that is happening as the calipers tighten down on the rotors.

Thank you for the input, the click only happens once every time I hit the brakes if I let go and hit them again the one click happens again, it definitely not in rotation while im moving, it can happen if I am just sitting there, do you still have a pic of the springs?

My 2014 XLT does the same thing. Sitting still, can you turn your steering wheel from left to right and feel/hear anything?

I had mine to the dealer this morning and was given the service letter TSB 14-0186. Needing thrust washer installed on left side.

May be something to check into.

It would be very helpful in addressing any future concerns if you added the MODEL of your Explorer to your profile so it always shows in the margin when you post.

IF that's the case, I'd jack the front up, take off the wheels, and have a helper isolate where the noise is coming from.
