Front diff removal

LOL my BII came with 3.27 gears!!

I am running 4.1 yes with 35's and it sucks
I do okay because I have a V8 and I also have the 4r70w which has a low first gear
At 75 on the highway I am right about 2800 rpm, so highway gear is awesome, plenty f power at 2800+ rpm with the V8 in a BII and awesome MPG, better then my V6 I think too

I should have gone 4.56 or even 4.88 but when I did the 4.1 it was on 32's and daily driven ALOT, I have so much money in my lockers and gears that I have stuck with 4.1

Someday I will go 4.88, as 5.13 has a weak ring gear in the D35 ttb or if I go with a D44 front diff I would love to have 5.13 gears, but thats when this truck is a trailer queen, currently I still drive her to Moab and all over CO, so 4.1 is okay, 4.56 would be better.

Only reason to go 4.1 is because you save a ton of $$$$ because you can find stock diffs/axles with those gears. Gear sets are cheap(ish), Yukon ring and pinion is what $110 a set? so when it comes time to re-gear (not bolting in stock parts) do yourself a favor and go with a higher ratio (lower gearing) then you think you should........3.73 to 4.1 is hardly notice-able

think i would regain stock-ish feel going from 3.27s to 4.10s? and the main reason im going with that ratio is the availability in stock axles. It is far more cough:cost efficient:cough for me to get complete diffs from a yard and bolt them up. the truck only sees mild to moderate trails, nothing crazy, and is driven around town alot. if money wasnt an issue.. eh im not even gonna start thinking about what i "want" to do to my truck as opposed to what i "can" do to it.

yeah.. 3.73s are readily available, but since im planning on running 33s at some point i thought hey.. why not just go 4.10 now. I know a 4.56 would be more ideal for this size tire, but for what i am going to use the truck for i think i will be happy with 4.10s.

do all 91-97 rangers have the true D35 and not the hybrid D28/D35?
No, ALL 90-92 rangers have true D35s (You want a 90-92 2.3 4x4 or 2.9 auto 4x4 for any chance of finding a 4.10 D35). 93+ all 2.3s got the hybrids and some 3.0s.

Good luck finding a 4.10 D35 in a sploder, I've certainly never seen one nor know anyone that has.

wonder if it would be better if i just bought 4.56 ring and pinions for the front and rear diff.. wheres a good place to buy from? cause i certaintly havnt seen any for $110 like 410fortune has.

I have 4:56's first gen stock 4.0, running 33x12.5x15 BFG MT's. About 2000-2100 rpm at 70. 4:56 is the right ratio for 33's. There is a calculator somewhere on here I did a search and found it once. Gears and install kits are worth it. I am very happy.

been looking at some ring and pinion prices.. so far everything ive seen for 4.56 says to use with 3.55 carrier.. can you not use the 3.27 carrier? i thought/figured the carriers were the same.

There is no carrier break.

im diggin up an old thread bc you guys were really helpful. i got some bad news, ive been callin yards all morning looking for a dana35 with 4.10s and NO ONE has any. i know a couple of you guys said youve seen em in your area, just curious if thered be any way to maybe get one to me? its a longshot, but im 'exploring' all options right now.

i am also going to have to check the front center section to make sure it is a 35 and not a 28. if i find one local i want to make sure im not buying something busted, what should I look for when inspecting the front pig? teeth chipped off of the ring and pinion i know, bearing play, but what else? im new to this still.. learning alot going through the process

Ok I know this is an old thread, but reading it, I think I can handel taking my frot diff off and apart to clean it, its about my only choice its like a milkshake in there if not thicker.
