Hi guys,
Newbie here, I've got a 98 Explorer V8 AWD with a bad CV joint on the front driveshaft. I took it apart, cleaned and re greased it. The metal clanking went away but I don't trust it anymore since there were vise marks on the cap showing it's been apart before I got it. In my search for a new one, I came across one at a local yard that the guy is telling me is a new design replacement for the CV style. This one has a U joint at both ends and the tranny side has the cup to mount it just like the CV cup. Is this guy giving me a line and what he has is for a smaller motor style or is it really an aftermarket fix for a bad Ford Design? I see a guy selling the CV ones on ebay for $200 vs the $689 the dealer wants, but I'd rather have real U joints if this is not just a wrong model thing that will fit but blow apart under a load.
Thanks,
Dennis
