Man I would look into your ball joints. I have the same clunk when I run anything over. I have had 2 different places look and thats what they said.
I just finished tearing into my front-end ('92 Explorer XLT 4x4). I also had that nasty clunk when driving over bumps. I'm glad I didn't listen to the shop who told me I needed new ball-joints.
I tightened the wheel bearings and replaced the Radius Arm Bushings. PROBLEM SOLVED!
While I was replacing things, I put add-a-leafs in the rear to get rid of the sag, replaced the shocks, totally rebuilt the brakes (rotors, calipers, pads), fixed the 4wd (wouldn't engage), and finished a punchlist of small stuff.
It's like night and day. No more front-end clunks, it's tight, and it drives fantastic.
