Front End Clunk

Man I would look into your ball joints. I have the same clunk when I run anything over. I have had 2 different places look and thats what they said.

I just finished tearing into my front-end ('92 Explorer XLT 4x4). I also had that nasty clunk when driving over bumps. I'm glad I didn't listen to the shop who told me I needed new ball-joints.

I tightened the wheel bearings and replaced the Radius Arm Bushings. PROBLEM SOLVED!

While I was replacing things, I put add-a-leafs in the rear to get rid of the sag, replaced the shocks, totally rebuilt the brakes (rotors, calipers, pads), fixed the 4wd (wouldn't engage), and finished a punchlist of small stuff.

It's like night and day. No more front-end clunks, it's tight, and it drives fantastic.

Hey,, i'm a newbie checkin through here.. I have the same problem with my 98 Sport. Everything is tight with mine, but I did find the sway bar bushings in the front are worn.. So even with a little bump, it causes the bar to shift just enough to make a clunking noise,... that might be the problem.. mine are being replaced next week sometime.

Sway bar links...

Woohoo....
Sway bar links solved the problem... :)

No more clunk...

Thanks everyone for all the help !!!!!

I'm replacing all these things too. My cousin works at an autopart store and is getting me all four ball joints, outer tie rod ends and sway bar end links (All MOOG) for $200 even. I'll do it myself and save a huge amount of money.

Hi make sure when checking balljoint to pry up on the bottom of the tire ,if the balljoint has vertical play you won't be able to feel it by rocking tire back and forth.
Just though this might help.

200 even? you must not be getting the upper control arms then? something is wrong there lol. MY COST on that stuff adds up to $362.50 this is what FM (moog) charges me buying in bulk

I don't know what to tell you man, I guess "YOUR COST" isn't that great. I posted this so long ago I don't even have the vehicle any more lol. Where did you dig this up?
