bodylift, period...;)

theres no other way besides a body lift? im basically in the same boat as defcon and im not about to do a bl. i guess the superlift is out of the question also, i heard from my buddy at the local suspension shop that it's not something you want in your x. he also refused to do a tt because its bad for the cv joints i guess.

bslusser, your trucks suspension is totally different from defcon's...you can do a torsion twist...if you search it there are several how to's on it here...

as to defcon's question, whenever you do a suspension lift, you are changing the geometry...to not change it, you don't change it...whenever you do a lift there is always at least a new alignment to be done, then maybe some parts, to correct this geometry...

now there are several ways to lift defcons vehicle...here is a link to a simple, inexpensive lift, if you don't want to do a body lift...it applies to rangers and X's...i hope this help's both of you for your two different style suspensions...:D

It is possible to lift the TTB suspension w/o changing the camber or caster:
- longer coils (for the "lift")
- brackets to drop the TTB axle tube pivots (to counter the camber change due to the longer coils)
- brackets to drop the radius arm point at the chassis or cut/angle/weld the radius arms or radius arm wedges (all of which counters the caster change due to the longer coils).

i'm thinking defcon is trying to do it cheap and avoid paying for the alignment... i could be wrong without some more feed back

oh yeah duh, he's gotta '91. alright well ill be searching for a tt how to, i was pretty turned off from it after what he had to say, but it seems to be pretty common on here. my only concerns are dammage to other suspension components. i dont mind a stiffer ride as long as nothing is taking a beating. im going to need a re-alignment after as well?

well see i plan on lifting my 91 eddie as much as possible by myself, as cheap as possible, and right now it seems best to start with a spring over axel conversion in the back, then from there i can do AAL or shackles or brackets, w/e. but then i need to compensate for the front. also, when you get like 2" of lift, is it really noticable? i mean 2 inches is the size of th or my fingertips. it seems to me only 4 or 5 inches and above would be noticable... just wondering...

ok...maybe we should start over ...:D how much money are you wanting to spend????
by the way, with the spring over axle swap you run the good chance of driveshaft problems...this needs to be looked into
usally you start off with the lift kit what you want first, depending on the height you want and what you can afford...the cheaper the lift, the cheaper the product....there are a ton of threads on hear including step by steps..;)
again, how much money are you wanting to spend???

at most 1,000. tbars, i was looking at your pictures online, i want my explorer to look like that one that comes up alot in your pictures... idk if its yours or a friends, its got the red paneling on the front... i can see they did a spring over axel conversion in the back but theres no clear shots of what was done in the front, but theres no camber.

For 1k you should be able to buy a lift kit (maybe used) that'll get you what you want. SOA in the rear and a spacer lift in the front would be very noticable. You also need to think about what gears you have in relation to what tire you want. If you get too big of a tire for the stock gears you will put more strain on your tranny, requiring changing of gears...which can cost 1k alone if you don't do them yourself. Good luck

Is the $1000 including tires? You can easily lift the front for less than $1000 including an alignment. If you're going to lift the back with the SOA and AAL (~7") then you'll want to get at least a 6" lift for the front.

how much will like 33's be? all together i have like 2,000 to spend on lifting. including tires and lift.

Everything depends on the brands you get. Research what you want and we'll probably be able to help you more.

Also, when you get to 33s, some may say that stock gears are fine, but that's because they havn't regeared it and don't know better. It starts to get expensive once you do that.

so with 2k to spend all together on tires an lift, what do you recommend to get as high as possible while doing a good job? and for a SOA, whats this superlift adapter im hearing about.. where can i look at one, and is it better or worse then welding on new tabs on the axle.?

just what froader says x2...

click on my link in my signature and see if there are some pics of what you are looking for....it's so much easier knowing how much you can spend...you can try www.superlift.com :D

tbars, in this picture:
exploa.jpg
that black peice is what i need. is that your explorer or a friends? it would help me out tremendously if you could tell me where to get that.

yeppers, it's mine, my project X...:D

as for those brackets, froader and i were discussing them one day...they came on the truck, but i want to say they are rancho brackets...
to save yourself alot of time, you might want to run down to 4wheelparts, as i believe you can get various styles of those from different manufacturer's and they would know who still carries them...just print out the picture and take it with you...btw, they are an e.f. vendor too...;)

well could you tell me how the front end is lifted on that? cause thats exactly what i wanna do to mine.

first, it does have the 3" bl....the front end is a cross of skyjacker and superlift, and i'm not really sure whose shock hoops those are....if you search the lift threads you will find pics of similar setups, 6"-8" of lift with pics and part numbers....;)
