I have a 07 Explorer 4.0L 111k miles, last week i was going too work and the front end started making noise a humming noise noise gets slightly louder at highway speeds but when i turn on 4 wheel drive the noise gets louder at slow speeds and can feel some vibration in steering wheel with out 4 wheel drive engaged but alot when its in 4 wheel drive i jacked the front end up and there is no play in the CV axles except very little play sliding the axle in and out of the diffrential and then i noticed the diff is hot so hot i cant keep my hand on it more then a second, the diff has oil soon as plug was loosend some oil came out so i grabed a drain pan and got some oil in it and it hade metalic sparkles in it i dout this is normal could front diff be going out this just started one morning going to work front end has never made a noise the year ive owned this truck
