Says the guy who didn't read this post on page 1
and in reply to that, in post #17 of this thread I replied
Sounds to me like you're avoiding the topic you brought up because you don't have a valid point. Everyone in this thread so far has been quite interested to hear what's so 'bad' about the first gens.
I'd be VERY interested to read what specific problems you feel plagued the first gen that makes it 'bad' compared to second gens.
My opinion is they are bad cars. You can either
A: type a novel about why they aren't
B: ignore it because trying to prove they aren't via text isn't going to magically make my 3 first gens come back to life.
Having an opinion is fine. Just because you feel they are somehow less reliable than second gens based on the three you owned doesn't have anything to do with the millions of other Explorers owned by others. The PROOF they are relaible vehicles is all of the other first gen owners on this site whose Explorers are working fine to this day.
As for the front clip, the big reason you'd want to swap the radiator support is the hood latch. It's lower on second gens because of the sloped hood. You can probably just bolt on the 1st gen fenders and hood, then make brackets to relocate the hood latch, spacers to raise the hood supports, and bolt on adapters to make the first gen headlight brackets bolt to the second gen radiator support.
It would be easier with a welder though, you could cut out stuff you don't need and weld in stuff from a donor.
You're at least going to need a welder to fill in the rear panels if you're putting 1st gen taillights in there.
