I've seen this 98+ ranger around the town by my school twice now and it has this cool factory looking skid plate that extends from the front bumper down tot he cross member. I want one for my truck and was wondering if the one off the ranger would bolt up to my truck and if those are even stock on the ranger. He had the off road package.

Yeah it will fit. It comes on all the 98+ rangers with the ORP.

THE FX4 ranger has an even beefier one supposedly.

Nice...i'll se ehow much they are from Torrie.

I checked one out on an FX4 a while back and it looks like it would work perfectly on an Explorer. Looked pretty stout too. Let me know how it works out.

Can we get some Photos?

splashman, is that the one from the XLT ranger or from the FX4?

Did it seem beefy enough to you? I looked at a friend's 99 ranger and it seemed really thin and wimpy looking.

Torrie says they are $149 plus freight

those are cool plates.
i made my own ou tof 1/4" diamond plate and reinforced with iron angle brackets. i drilled and tapped the frame and have 1/2 bolts holding it on. it comes in handy hitting ruts in the dunes and mud. i made mine for nothing becuase i knew the guy who cut the steel but i think if someone were persitant they could get it done for less than $50.

check out the pics in my link in my signature

Thats a cool plate. Also how did you mount that "mesh" backing for your grille? I like those and didn;t know if it would work on a 95.

I love that skid plate design!

Could you give me the dimensions on that thing?

the plate is a basic trapezoid if i remember right it is 32" x 17" on the parallell ends and 20" long. i have the reese tow hooks and i the plate rests on them. i drilled a half inch hole at an angle and then threaded it so there are 2 - 4" x 1/2" grade 8 bolts holding it to the frame. the edges are bolted to 2" x 2" angle iron that i welded together then bolted to the plate. i was going to add a cross-bar but it is stout as heck now. the bottom bracket i reversed and drilled out holes and threaded... [funny story i had the plate on and i had not gotten my 2 bottom bolts yet and went wheeling, i hit a stump underwater and snagged the plate. it did not bend but pushed the explorer up and high centered me - i figure that better than ramming a stationary object with the crossmember] the plate is bolted every 4" with grade eight hardware. if i did it again i would uses steel diamond plate so that i could weld the frame to the plate. aliminum and iron dont weld together well.

ive got the original blue print as an eps at work. ill make it jpeg and post a link here tommorro. this was one of the most fun tricks on the ex as it was fairly easy and is functional and asthetic.

Here ya go... and check out this link to see how Cameron made his fit with the brush guard and tow hooks...Skidplate

I must say, I really like the looks of that skidplate. This may be a dumb question, but is it possible to make a skidplate (thatis actually funcitonal) without welding?

I used Cameron's measuerments from about to make mine, and it is going to be totally bolt on... I am bolting the top to the bolts that hold my tow hooks on and the bottom is going to be bolted to two pieces on angle iron that are inturn bolted to the front cross member. I got mine cut out og 1/8" dimondplate and I am going to Herculine it.

Cool. Now that I know Idon't have to weld, a skidplate might be a good idea for a future mod. Thanks!
