Hi,
I am new to the forum. I have a 1996 Explorer with 115,000 miles. I need to replace the driver side front wheel bearing. Is this something I can handle myself or is this better left to the professionals?

Welcome to the forum! The wheel bearing on your truck is a complete assembly that can be changed at home fairly easily if you have a good set of sockets. It requires the removal of 3 15mm (?) bolts on the rear of the spindle bracket and the removal of the spindle nut. The spindle nut is on fairly tightly and will probably need a breaker bar to get it loose (and to replace it ). You should also have a torque wrench to re-tighten the spindle nut properly. The torque required to properly tighten it is 157 to 213 ft-lbs.
