Hi,

I changed my fuel filter not long ago, but my old filter did not have the metal safety clips shown in the haynes manual. I've tried all the parts stores and they dont have them. The dealer wants 11.50 a piece. Are these necessary? Does anyone know where i can get them cheaper.

Thanks,
Carlos

If you are worried about it, I would securely wrap a length of stainless or copper wire around one side of the tubing and bridge it to the other side. Should hold easily with how the connector bells out. Maximum force this would ever see is about two pounds. Connector has to slip off over a half inch before any leaking would occur.

zip ties?

zip ties won't hold those on, as the clips actually go INSIDE the fuel line itself. You probably won't find them anywhere else other then the dealer. Myself, I would suck it up and spend the $25 knowing I'll be safer because of it, but I also think that you could get by without having these clips installed and the lines would stay connected no problems.

They sell the clips at most autoparts stores for like $1.00

I can get the part number if you need.....

If you screw yours up you can stick replacement metal springs in there...we did it on a 91 and now he keeps a package of extra's around for the next timehe does a filter. The pressure fitting did NOT WANT TO MOVE. Took him over an hour to get the filter off and when he did he broke the spring clip thingys.

Hi,

Im not talking about the metal clips inside the quickconnect line. Im talking about the metal clips that bridge over between the line and the filter. Its just a safety device, doesnt actually do anything.
