fuel problem.... i think.....

this problem is increasing. i'm starting to think that this is beyond plugs/wires mostly because of how quickly the problem set in. it seemed fine one day, and now it is very sluggish with very harsh jolts of power.

i'm really starting to guess it has to do with fuel pressure, and not maintaining a steady pressure, so i'm guessing FPR. anyone else have any ideas?

if i really push down on the gas, the engine will actually knock at times, like it misfires or something.

still haven't solved this problem(haven't been driving much). was wondering though....

if i test the fuel pressure, and it comes back abnormal, how can you tell if it is the FPR or the Fuel Pump itself?

i'm thinking of having the pressure tested, to solve whether it is the plugs/wires, or the fuel that is causing the problem. How would i know? thanks, todd.

todd, I believe autozone sells a fuel pressure guage for about 40 bux, it is easy to use, kind of like a bicycle tire valve fitting. That will narrow it down.
I had a relay causing the same symptoms, but not the relay itself , it was the connector lugs loose. Jiggle the relay and see if pump goes on and off. How about fuse # 19 in the interior fuse panel. It powers the pcm diode, could be a bad connection to it. Wiggle it and listen to fuel pump.
These both gave me fits

ok, for those interested....

the fuel pressure tested ok, and so i went ahead and changed out plugs and wires. used autolite double platinums, and autolite plugs wires. Old plugs were gapped to like .085, compared to the recommended .054

after new plugs and wires, she is running much better. Gas mileage is back to normal as well. Thanks to all who replied. Todd.
