I did a search and still have a few questions. My X just started making a tapping noise from what seams to be the driver side rear. It is only there when the truck is running and or when the key is on with the engine off. Sounds like the fuel pump right? The noise also decreases when a put a load on the electric i.e. if I press all the window switches and put the rear defrost on. Just recently I also started to have a hesitation when starting it. It will turn over and die, if I restart it will run fine. All this leads me to think I need a new fuel pump. Anyone have any other ideas?

Nope, sounds like a fual pump issue, but it may not be the pump.
It may be the power supply to the pump. You should check or replace the fuel pump relay and fuse located in the power distribution box under the hood....and then see if the problem persists.

I have never heard a pump make a clicking sound, just a whirrr or a sucking sound (like its sucking air), thats a new one on me...

If the pump is not getting enough power it could be:

Your ground cable is bad (from battery to frame)
The pump is far back on the chasis, so its ground can have issues if the feed from the battery is rotten

Test the battery and alternator, sounds like you have more then just a fuel pump power problem, if the lights dim, or the windows are slow, test the alternator, battery, and cables.

Thanks, I'll ck the relay and fuse. I do not have any Bat or alt symptems right now. Both have been replaced last year. I also had upgraded too a biger amp last year.
