funny smell

during summer months i get a funny sweet heavy odor from under the hood. it happens only occasionaly. i had the cooling system pressure checked but found no leaks. any help would be great thanks

i would check your passenger side floor mat as it sounds like you have a heater core going bad...it is located on the inside of the cab behind the glove box...welcome to this site...

Did you have any gaskets replaced recently? Sometimes gasket paste smells. Exhaust gaskets with high temperature sealant could also smell when it reaches a certain temperature.

probably a small leak.

maybe the water pump is going and the weep hole is leaking.

check around the temp sender. It could be small enough to not loose pressure, but when the engine vibrates jiggles the sender enough to leak. That has happened to me.

did they look inside the cab when the pressure tester was applied?
does a 94 have the heater bypass valve?

If you pressurize the cooling system and the heater bypass valve is bypassing the heater core a leak there could go un detected.

He did say the smell was under the hood, but it definatley sounds like a coolant leak from the description

the next step (after checking these things) would be to use the black light and dye kit leak detection system I think

maybe a faulty cap that keeps popping and overflowing/venting. should be 16lbs right?. For 02 its 16lbs.

Had the same problem and my radiator was cracked !
