Thought I'd start off with an anecdote. So over the winter my brother and I put on my Magnaflow exhaust. After probably 6 months of trying to patch up the little leaks it finally just fell off in the middle of the road. the strap held it there, but that sure sucked. Got it to my brother's the next day and welded it back up there this time and it's quieter than I imagined it ever would be. So just a note the the Magnaflows aren't nearly as loud as you'd think. Ok, on to my ?s.

Lately the tach has been erratic. I've seen it sitting down at 0 with the truck running. It runs great. no issues whatsoever. Just would like my tach to stay in the right place. Anything I should check on that?

Also I've checked into this before and I remember reading that it was the slip-yoke on the drive shaft that needed lubed, well I've already done that and still get the shift back when I go forward. It's kind of hard to explain but it feels like something is shifting it's position under there. Am I just being crazy or do I need to fix something?

It could be the springs arcing since your explorer has the mono leaf rear springs. You could also check the transmission/transfer case rubber mounts to make sure they are still there.

Should've mentioned

The transmission was just rebuilt not 500 miles ago so I would hope that if there were anything missing for the transmission they would have fixed it. The leaf springs arcing sounds like a good bet to me (one that I've been wanting to address for a while). So best bet, head to the junk yard and pick up some 4 door leaf springs? I need more towing capacity anyways and I've been planning to do the swap anyways, this'll just give me a little more incentive to do it.
