Alrighty... so my rear wiper stopped working today. I know what youre all thinking already by that statement, but bear with me here.

So anyways, I was going to try changing the fuse to see if that fixed it or if it was just a broken motor like everyone elses. I pull out my manual thats for a year 2000 and mines a 1998. To my disappointment the replaced fuse did nothing for me.

All that I really want to know is, are the fuse locations the same for 1998 as they are in 2000? If they are not can someone tell me the fuse location and fuse type for the rear wiper motor of a 1998?

This is 98
There is also a relay for the rear wiper I think it is the washer pump relay, the fuse for it runs power windows also, fuse 12 10A, on interior fuse panel, and fuse 16 30A runs wiper hi low relay, wiper run park relay , and wiper motor.
this is underhood power panel, showing relays

The layout of relays and fuses are the same but i guess the numbers arent... according to my 2000 Manual it says that 8 utilizes a 15A to run the rear wiper motor. Thanks alot for that info I will see what I can do in the morning.

on the interior fuse panel , fuse # 8 is a 10A , and it protects rt headlamp, daytime running lamps and foglight relay,
in power dist box there are also 2 more fuses labeled # 8, 1 is a 20A maxi fuse and protects the auto ride control, the other is a 30A mini, protectsthe PCM relay

oh yeah? The #8 in the interior matches up with the 98 but the others do not... I guess its safe to say that they arent even close. Thanks again, hopefully my wiper woes are just because of a fuse.

My rear wiper is off, because the arm broke, but the other day I heard a relay clicking, I think it was the washer pump relay, when I looked inside I noticed my rear wiper was turned on. I switched it off and no relay click. This makes me think the rear wiper motor is tired to the washer pump circuit. I'll verify this tomorrow, and get back to you. In the morning, listen for a relay clicking in the distribution box, with rear wiper switched on. If the relay clicks, fuses are o.k. i think

I just looked in chilton's manual. Check for fuse # 24 (15A) in interior fuse panel

On my 98 there is a up relay and down relay for the rear wiper, located where the washer pump relay, and fog lamp relays are.
Rear wiper up being where the washer pump is and rear wiper down being where the fog lamp relay is.

sigh... the rear wiper is broken... i went out and listened for the clicking and heard it. I tried the slamming the hatch shut trick and it worked ONCE. Its busted... another thing to add to the list of things I want to fix

thanks for the help guys... this site never ceases to amaze me with feedback

Mine was doing the same thing, don't rule out the relays,I tried a different motor and had the same results, internittent working, turned out the down relays was bad which caused the wiper to quit working whenever it wanted.

yeah, i decided im just gonna change the fuses anyways and see what happens.. its likely ill need them anyway
