Hi Folks, I been trying to locate the fuel pump fuse or relay in my 98 explorer, the information I found tells me the relay is in the fuse relay box under the bonnet, I pulled the the relay but it made no difference the pump still runs, I am trying to find the reason my engine runs six clinders & then will cut back to five cilinders, I am fitting new injectors & it is hard to get to the injectors to check anyting with it all assembled so I want to check things while it is apart. the picture is the fuse box in my truck & I think it could be a 97 fuse box because it doesn't match the one in my owners manual, can anyone help me out with that.

If you pull the relay ( with the p on it) the pump still runs you have a dead short somewhere in the wiring or somebody has bypassed the entire stock fuel pump power system and run the pump directly to the ignition switch

I would inspect the fuel tank wiring at the fuel tank wiring connector just above your rear drivers tire on the frame rail

The relay with the white “p” on it is indeed the fuel pump relay

The one with the “s” on it is the ac wot relay

The third large relay is the pcm relay

Your fuel pump should run for 2 seconds each time to r key is turned to on… it should run the stop. If it does not then the pcm is not controlling the pump and something is fishy = your truck has been modified

What is the build date of your explorer? Found on drivers door sticker

It is registed as 2/98 & that is on the vin plate under the bonnet. below that it is Dec 97
on the door it is 12/97, So I will go with the one on the door, there seems to be a problem because sometimes I have to buy 98 parts to fit & other times 97, so what happened I don't know. the truck has been very weel looked after, still has the orignal floor mats with the Limited on the mats, the owner was very particuler with the way he keept the unit, so maybe someone has has made a repair he did n't know about.
