Have found some wheels I like (Eagle 192) but they say "for FWD". What is the difference? Can you use one in place of another? Confused.....I understand that the FWD wheels have a 'deeper' backspacing, and that is why they typically have spokes that are nearly even with the rim edge, verses RWD which are deeper 'dished' on the appearance side. I guess I am asking can I use the eagle 192's on the RWD explorer? Will I have to use spacers? (YUCK)

like you said, backspacing is the key thing here. If you are 4wd, and the wheels do something weird, take out your rear driveshaft and say your FWD. easy fix. They'll warranty it. Ha, but no -- I am not really sure whats the difference. Free bump for ya.

If you look at a FWD vehicle, the rim is set out. Look at a RWD and the rim is set in.

You might be able to put RWD rims on a FWD vehicle, they would stick WAY out. But no way could you go the other way.
