Gas Mileage Computer

I was wondering if anybody knows what the computer system "checks" to provide the instant gas mileage rating. I have a 95' eddie bauer and was wanting to put at least an air intake on, maybe others such as exhaust, etc. But by putting those items on will it throw the computer rating off? How accurate is the computer B4 any mods are done?

From my calculations, the ECON is pretty accurate. I have taken the RANGE past 0 before, so I am unsure of its accuracy, but it is prolly real close (Ford may have built in a little tolerance on that one).

The computer constantly updates the info accorcing to how you are driving. For example, my new Limited got a new battery when I got it. For the first couple of days I drove (only city) the ECON was around 11mpg. When I finally got a chance to put it on the interestate for awhile, it went up to about 17mpg.

The computer should see how far you have gone and how much fuel you have used. It should have no problem with the mods you are planning.
