Just trying to get everyones opinion on it, ive noticed a big drop in gas mileage lately, i was gettin around 200 or a lil more per tank. Now all of a sudden im gettin like 160! i dunno whats goin on. I got flowmasters, kkm, hi-flow cat, 33's with 3.73's. This is driving on highway and city and i havent been driving anything new jus the same old places. What should i do, its kinda annoying and im just wondering whats goin on. Thanks guys

What size is your tank? I've got a '97 5.0L, 21 gal tank, and hwy/city gives me about 300 miles/tank...been averaging about 16 mpg.

if you notice a huge drop it's usually a sign something needs to be fixed (tue up, oil, exhaust, etc...)

Does your exhaust smell really strong? If so, you might be running rich, which in turn makes your mileage go to hell.

Could be the "winter blend" gas. My mileage seems to go down when they change over the formula for the winter.

ive got a 18 gallon tank...how do i know what to fix though? it makes weird smells comming from under the hood

Iam having the same problem with my 91..I'm getting about 177 miles to a tank and I was doing alot better before. I just changed my oil and air filter so i"ll let you know but I think there is something else wrong. When i get on the gas my buddy says you can really smell the gas.....I don't know...chico

I thought 4-doors had the 21-gallon tank?

Have the temperature fallen there? When the temp drops you will notice a large difference in mileage. The cold air is more dense, which requires more fuel.

I thought i was getting bad mileage. I am running 35's with 3.55's. I am getting 240 to the tank. I can normally fill my tank up to around 21 gallons, but it says it is only a 19 gallons tank.

My '93 XLT is a 4-door and i only have an 18 gallon tank, and mines been getting ****y gas mileage to... you probably might want to go in for a tune up (i need to take my own advice), it could also be where you've been getting your gas, i noticed i changed gas stations and it helped a little bit but not much, some gas stations don't have as good of blends as others, you just got to try them out.

Start with resetting the computer by disconnecting the negative battery cable for 5-10 minutes. Next clean your MAF. Do a search for that. then reset the computer again.

I'm getting about 240/16 gal @ refill doing mixed driving. On a recent trip to Great Falls Montana, my best tank was 19.95mpg.

There are a lot of other things to consider too.
high quality fuel injector cleaner , like Amsol
New plugs and wires
Synthetic oil and tranny fluid
SeaFoam the intake to burn out carbon deposits

The list is long and distinguished.

lol im getting sme bad milage... not too bad though... i get about 280mpg/21 gal, i usually fill up when my computer says 50miles till empty.

my guess is that its the added weight of the subs in the back... too much weight in your truck could worsen the milage

**full tank says 315miles till empty, i still dont get there even when i dont ride it hard..

ok ive noticed that the exhaust smells hella strong... sorta like gas. is there a way to lean out the richness?
