This is more of a rant then anything.

WTF with winter and gas mileage going down? I check the tires not on the gas all the time... and wouldn't you know it my mileage goes down 3+ mpg which at 3.15 a gallon gets spendy twice a week. If it wasn't for the fact i love my Ex and its paid off i am not sure what i would do. Oh yeah i also drive 75 miles round trip 5 days a week!!!!

Ok i am done.

Yup. Winter gas blows.

Winter blend/increased ethanol content. Cold, dense air. Longer to warm up. Freezing outside the truck while you spend $3.15+/gallon... All adds up... :)

The biggest is porbably the colder temps. uses a ton more fuel to start and run until it warms up and gets into closed loop operation. Even the the denser air = more fuel. Add on top of that (if you commute) driving in stop and go traffic that gets 10 times worse when it snows. It all adds up to $$$$$ at the pump.

driving in snow/slush too uses more gas. Much more effort to push your vehicle is needed.

Move south perhaps...

Yeah, it sucks. If I really work hard and conserve, I can get 20mpg, but it's normally 15-17 in the city, 50/50 highway and city traffic on my daily commute.

yeah it's for sure the price of gas that is the killer. I am destined to spend that or more since i love the snow.
As i said just need to mildly vent.

gas mileage is not better for me in the south

16 mostly highway...altho I do have a heavy foot after CAI

Pretty much every car i have owned loses 3 mpg in winter time.

Maybe try building a "warm air intake", for winter use, which pulls pre-heated under hood air, instead of fresh cold air from outside?
